Technical sales. New business. Real territory ownership.
Hire Quality Talent is working exclusively with a leading international manufacturer of bandsaw blades, cutting solutions, and industrial tooling to appoint a Technical Business Development Manager covering the Midlands and South of England.
We are looking for a technically credible, commercially driven salesperson who understands how to develop new business within engineering, manufacturing, fabrication, and metalworking environments.
This is not simply an account management role.
You will be expected to get out into the market, identify opportunities, understand customers' cutting challenges, recommend the right technical solution, and convert those conversations into sustainable commercial growth.
You will work across distributors, weld centres, and directly with industrial end users, developing the channel while creating demand at the customer level.
If you are at your best on a factory floor, in a workshop, or sitting with an engineering customer discussing an application, rather than simply managing accounts from behind a laptop, this could be a very good fit.
The Role
As a Technical Business Development Manager, you will take ownership of Band Saw growth across the Midlands and South of England. The role combines technical application selling, new business development, distributor management, and end-user engagement.
You will need to understand what the customer is trying to achieve, ask the right technical questions, and translate that into the appropriate cutting solution. That could mean discussing materials, applications, blade selection, cutting performance, productivity, blade life, cost per cut, or helping a customer trial an alternative solution.
Commercially, the expectation is equally clear. Find opportunities, create demand, and win business.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively identify, target, and win new Band Saw business across the territory.
- Develop new opportunities within engineering, manufacturing, fabrication, metalworking, and associated industrial markets.
- Work directly with end users to understand their applications, challenges, and cutting requirements.
- Recommend appropriate blade and cutting solutions based on the customer's technical and commercial needs.
- Conduct product demonstrations, blade trials, technical evaluations, and training.
- Use application knowledge to demonstrate improvements in cutting performance, productivity, blade life, and overall value.
- Build strong relationships with engineers, production teams, purchasing professionals, and business owners.
- Develop existing distributor and weld centre relationships while identifying new channel opportunities.
- Work alongside distribution partners to generate leads and convert end-user opportunities.
- Create pull-through demand by building product preference at the end-user level.
- Develop strategic accounts and increase penetration within existing customers.
- Build and manage a strong new-business pipeline.
- Take ownership of territory planning, forecasting, and commercial performance.
- Monitor competitor products, pricing, market activity, and emerging opportunities.
- Feed customer and market intelligence back into the wider UK commercial team.
- Represent the business at customer meetings, exhibitions, and industry events.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Who We're Looking For
This role needs more than a good salesperson. We are looking for someone who can combine technical understanding with genuine business development ability.
You might currently be a Technical Business Development Manager, Technical Sales Manager, Area Sales Manager, Sales Engineer, Applications Engineer, Business Development Manager, or Cutting Tools Specialist.
Your title matters far less than your ability to walk into an industrial customer, understand the application, establish credibility, and turn technical conversations into commercial opportunities.
Ideally, You Will Have
- Proven experience in technical B2B sales or business development.
- A strong track record of winning new business, not simply managing existing accounts.
- Experience selling into engineering, manufacturing, fabrication, or metalworking environments.
- The technical aptitude to understand customer applications and recommend solutions.
- Experience working directly with industrial end users.
- Exposure to distributors, weld centres, or industrial supply channels.
- Confidence conducting product trials, demonstrations, and technical conversations.
- Strong commercial, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- A structured approach to territory development, pipeline management, and forecasting.
- The independence and motivation required for a home-based field role.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively across the Midlands and South.

Particularly Relevant Experience
Direct bandsaw blade or sawing experience would be highly attractive, but we are not limiting the search to candidates already working specifically within bandsaws.
We would be very interested in strong technical salespeople from areas such as bandsaw blades, cutting tools, metal cutting, sawing equipment, machine tools, welding and fabrication, industrial tooling, abrasives, and industrial consumables.
What matters is that you understand technical, application-led selling into industrial customers and can demonstrate that you have successfully developed new business.
What Success Looks Like
Within your first 12 months, you will have:
- Built a clear picture of the Band Saw opportunity across your territory.
- Developed a strong pipeline of new end-user opportunities.
- Won new customers across key industrial sectors.
- Strengthened relationships with distributors and weld centres.
- Increased product trials and conversions.
- Created greater pull-through demand from end users.
- Increased market visibility and product adoption.
- Delivered measurable, profitable sales growth.
Why Join?
You will be joining an established international manufacturer with a respected product portfolio and the technical capability to compete seriously within the market.
You will have genuine ownership of your territory and the freedom to develop it, with the backing, product training, and technical support of an established global business.
For someone who genuinely enjoys the combination of engineering, problem solving, customer relationships, and winning new business, this is an opportunity to make a visible commercial impact.
Salary and Benefits
- c.£50,000 basic salary
- Up to 50% performance-related bonus
- Car allowance
- Home-based working
- Comprehensive product training and ongoing development
