The Role

As Technical Buyer, Applied Science, you will be responsible for the end-to-end procurement activity required to support Applied Science, supporting high-complexity engineering programmes. You will translate technical requirements into effective sourcing activity, manage supplier delivery performance, and ensure purchasing processes are followed with discipline and clarity.

The Applied Science department plays a key role in delivering high-performance engineering outside of F1, contributing to a wide range of advanced vehicle and design programmes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procure direct components, assemblies, specialist manufacturing services, tooling, and project-critical consumables to support Applied Science delivery.
  • Review engineering drawings, BOMs, specifications, and manufacturing requirements to ensure purchase orders are technically accurate and commercially robust.
  • Negotiate cost, lead time, payment terms, and delivery commitments with suppliers, ensuring value for money without compromising programme requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, design, programme management, quality, and finance to align procurement activity with technical priorities and milestone demands.
  • Proactively expedite open purchase orders, manage delivery risks, and keep SAP, procurement trackers, and stakeholders up to date.
  • Support supplier selection, onboarding, and performance management for high-complexity components and services.
  • Maintain strong process control, ensuring compliance with Purchasing, Quality, and Finance procedures, including correct requisition and purchase order discipline.
  • Identify and escalate supply chain risks, commercial blockers, long-lead items, and critical path constraints early, with clear recovery actions.
  • Build effective working relationships with internal customers and external suppliers, demonstrating structured communication, dispute resolution, and professional follow-through.
  • Work with the supply chain and technical teams to reduce lead times, improve cost outcomes, and support continuous improvement across Applied Science procurement activity.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
