The opportunity

TSR Legal is delighted to be working with a leading insurance and professional indemnity practice that is looking to appoint a skilled Technical Claims Handler to join its growing Bristol-based team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a claims professional to manage a varied and technically challenging caseload of professional indemnity claims while working closely with leading insurers, brokers, and legal professionals. The role offers genuine career progression, a collaborative working environment, and the opportunity to play a key part in delivering an exceptional claims service.

The role

As a Technical Claims Handler, you will manage a portfolio of professional indemnity claims from first notification through to resolution. Working under delegated authority, you will investigate claims, assess liability, policy coverage, and quantum, while ensuring excellent service delivery to insurers, brokers, and policyholders.

You will also support the wider team through mentoring, technical guidance, and maintaining the highest standards of claims handling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a full caseload of professional indemnity claims under delegated authority.
  • Assess liability, indemnity, policy coverage, and quantum with minimal supervision.
  • Investigate complex claims and identify appropriate resolution strategies.
  • Negotiate settlements within delegated authority limits.
  • Prepare technical reports and recommendations for insurers where matters fall outside delegated authority.
  • Effectively manage and liaise with panel solicitors on behalf of insurers.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with insurers, brokers, policyholders, and external suppliers.
  • Ensure compliance with service level agreements (SLAs), KPIs, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate reserves and ensure effective cost control throughout the life of each claim.
  • Keep electronic case management systems up to date with complete and accurate records.
  • Support the development of junior team members through coaching, mentoring, and technical training.
  • Stay up to date with legal developments and share technical knowledge across the team.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
