Technical Support Consultant - Software Company

£50,000 – £55,000 | Hybrid | North of London

Are you technically strong but enjoy working with people just as much as you enjoy working with technology?

We’re partnering with an established software business looking to add a Technical Support Consultant to its growing technical team.

This isn't a traditional helpdesk role, nor is it a pure development position.

You'll sit at the intersection of technical support, Business Intelligence consulting and customer training working directly with customers to solve technical problems, deliver reporting solutions and help users get the most from a specialist BI platform.

It could be an excellent move for someone from a BI, reporting, software development or technical consultancy background who wants a more varied and customer-facing position.

The Role:

You'll essentially wear three hats!

Technical Support
You'll work directly with customers on technical queries, software installations, upgrades and configurations.
You'll be expected to investigate problems independently, troubleshoot technical issues and provide practical solutions rather than simply escalating tickets.

BI & Reporting Consultancy
You'll work with customers to understand their reporting requirements and help deliver solutions from initial scoping through to design, build, testing and deployment.
A significant part of the position involves working with established reporting environments, so you'll need a good understanding of how data, databases and reporting tools fit together.
You'll regularly translate customer requirements into practical reporting solutions, meaning you'll need both technical ability and the confidence to ask the right questions.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Customer Training
You'll deliver structured online training sessions to customers, covering both fundamental and more advanced areas of the software.
You'll also contribute to technical documentation, training materials and user guides, with opportunities to support demonstrations and other customer-facing activities.

What We're Looking For

The key requirement is a genuine background in Business Intelligence and report writing.

You may have experience with technologies such as:

  • Power BI
  • Tableau
  • Qlik / QlikView
  • Cognos
  • SAP BusinessObjects
  • Similar BI or enterprise reporting platforms

You won't need previous experience with the company's own platform, as full product training will be provided.

More importantly, you'll understand how reporting systems work and be comfortable working with relational databases, tables, keys, data structures and the fundamentals behind how information is stored and queried.

Previous software development, scripting or programming experience would be particularly valuable.

The ideal person is technically strong but doesn't necessarily want to spend their entire career in a pure coding position.

You'll enjoy working with customers, getting to the bottom of technical problems, explaining complex concepts clearly and presenting to groups of users.

What Would Make You Stand Out?

  • Previous exposure to ERP or wider enterprise software environments would be advantageous, particularly within sectors such as:
    • Manufacturing
    • Distribution
    • Enterprise technology
    • Healthcare
  • A relevant technical degree, ideally Computer Science or a related discipline, would also be beneficial.

Above everything else, we're looking for someone who combines technical depth with personality and strong communication skills.

You'll need to be equally comfortable getting into the detail of a technical problem, discussing requirements with a customer and delivering a training session.

Working Pattern:

This is a hybrid position based in Hertfordshire, combining office-based collaboration with remote working.

You'll therefore need to live within a reasonable commuting distance of the Hertfordshire area.

There may also be occasional travel depending on customer requirements.
