Project Delivery

• Act as the Technical Delivery Manager throughout the installation.
• Coordinate and manage approved Delivery Partners, plumbers, engineers and specialist subcontractors.
• Ensure contractors fully understand the specification and required standard of installation.
• Monitor progress against programme and agreed scope.
• Attend site as required throughout delivery.
• Resolve technical issues arising during installation.
• Manage changes and variations and ensure they are properly documented and commercially controlled.
• Maintain clear communication between the client, contractor and internal SMCC teams.

Quality Assurance

• Inspect completed and ongoing works against the agreed specification.
• Ensure installations meet the required quality standards and manufacturer requirements.
• Identify defects or incomplete works and ensure corrective actions are completed.
• Maintain appropriate photographic and project records.
• Ensure projects are delivered safely, correctly and to the required specification.

Health & Safety

• Take ownership of appropriate Health & Safety controls throughout project delivery.
• Ensure contractors provide suitable RAMS and required competency information.
• Monitor site activities and challenge unsafe practices.
• Ensure appropriate permits, isolations and site-specific controls are implemented.
• Report and manage incidents, near misses and safety observations in accordance with SMCC processes.

Commissioning & Performance

• Coordinate commissioning of installed equipment and systems.
• Confirm installations are operating correctly before handover.
• Where appropriate, compare post-installation performance against the original design intent and water-saving calculations.
• Ensure meters, controls and monitoring equipment are correctly configured where included within the project.

Project Handover

• Manage the project through to formal completion and client acceptance.
• Compile and review the project handover pack, including:
  • Commissioning information
  • Product information
  • Warranties
  • O&M documentation
  • As-built information
  • Photographic records
  • Completed quality documentation
  • Client acceptance/sign-off
• Ensure all defects and outstanding actions are closed before final project completion.

Ongoing Maintenance & Recurring Revenue

• Identify opportunities for ongoing water monitoring, maintenance and optimisation.
• Support the transition of completed projects into appropriate maintenance or service programmes.
• Use project and performance information to identify further water-efficiency opportunities across the client’s estate.

Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate would have:

• A strong practical background in plumbing, mechanical services, water systems or water-efficiency technologies.
• Experience undertaking site surveys and assessing existing water installations.
• The ability to understand water pressures, flow rates, pipework arrangements and plumbing systems.
• Experience specifying plumbing products or water-saving technologies.
• Ability to produce scopes of work, specifications and Bills of Quantities.
• Good understanding of construction and installation activities.
• Experience supervising contractors, engineers or site works.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the confidence to make practical technical decisions.
• Good commercial awareness and an understanding of project costs and variations.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with clients, contractors and suppliers.
• Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements within construction and engineering environments.

Background

This role does not necessarily require a traditional engineering degree.

It could be particularly suitable for an experienced plumber, plumbing supervisor, mechanical engineer, water-efficiency specialist or contracts engineer who has developed strong technical knowledge and is ready to take greater ownership of both design and project delivery.

Practical experience and the ability to understand how something will actually be installed and work on site are particularly important.

The TDM – Water Efficiency provides technical ownership throughout this entire process, creating continuity between what is surveyed, what is designed, what is sold and what is ultimately installed for the client.

Overall Objective

To ensure SaveMoneyCutCarbon water-efficiency projects are technically sound, commercially deliverable, safely installed and completed to the agreed specification, while providing clients with a consistent technical point of ownership from initial survey through to successful handover.
