Technical Designer (Scenic)

Location: North London

Type: Full Time

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000

Job Ref: 40971

About the Role

My client are looking for an experienced Technical Designer to join their creative construction team, specialising in experiential events, pop-up retail, TV, film and brand activations. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in transforming creative concepts into buildable realities, working on innovative projects from concept through to fabrication.

As a Technical Designer, you will be responsible for translating creative briefs into technically robust construction drawings and fabrication-ready documentation. Working closely with design, production and workshop teams, you'll develop practical solutions that balance creativity, structural integrity and efficient manufacture.

This role requires extensive scenic fabrication knowledge and experience within experiential events, pop-up retail, TV or film environments. You'll be confident solving complex technical challenges and promoting a collaborative, solution-focused approach throughout the design process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret client and creative briefs and develop practical technical solutions.
  • Produce detailed construction drawings, technical plans and shop-ready fabrication packages.
  • Develop structural and fabrication solutions suitable for CNC machining, 3D printing and other manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with designers, project managers and workshop teams to ensure concepts are practical, efficient and cost-effective to build.
  • Identify and resolve technical challenges throughout the design and production process.
  • Ensure designs meet quality, safety and production requirements.
  • Promote a proactive problem-solving culture within the design team.
  • Stay up to date with new materials, technologies and fabrication techniques.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
