Technical Director

Location: South (Milton Keynes / London / Leicester)

Salary: Up to £100K depending on experience

We’re looking for an exceptional Technical Director to take full ownership of engineering and technical service delivery across a major UK financial services account. This is a high-profile, senior leadership role with responsibility for mission-critical environments, including data centres, head office buildings, and a nationwide retail estate.

The Role

As Technical Director, you’ll be the senior technical authority and duty holder, accountable for the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of all engineering services across the portfolio.

You’ll lead a large, multi-disciplinary team and ensure resilience, uptime, and best-in-class service delivery across a complex and critical estate.


Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Delivery

  • Act as the senior escalation point for all technical services matters
  • Lead engineering delivery across data centres, head offices, and retail sites
  • Ensure operational resilience, service continuity, and compliance
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement across the estate

Electrical Safety & Compliance

  • Own electrical safety at duty holder level
  • Lead governance of HV/LV systems, Safe Systems of Work, and permits
  • Oversee audits, compliance standards, and safety culture
  • Ensure alignment with ESRP and industry best practice

Financial & Commercial Management

  • Manage engineering budgets, forecasts, and financial performance
  • Deliver against revenue, cost, and margin targets
  • Identify growth opportunities and cost efficiencies

Operations & People Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop senior engineering teams
  • Drive consistency in processes, systems, and reporting
  • Support succession planning and capability development

Asset & Lifecycle Management

  • Deliver asset strategies aligned to ISO55001
  • Align asset condition, risk, and investment planning

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong, trusted relationships with key stakeholders
  • Ensure delivery against KPIs, SLAs, and contractual commitments
  • Contribute to account strategy and long-term growth

About You

You’ll be a credible senior leader with strong technical authority and commercial awareness, comfortable operating in a complex, high-risk environment.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Proven experience in a senior engineering leadership role
  • Strong background in critical environments (banking/data centres)
  • Experience as a Principal Engineer / Duty Holder
  • Expertise in HV/LV systems, electrical distribution, and switching
  • Leadership of Authorised Person (AP) / Authorising Engineer (AE) frameworks
  • Practical experience with 11KV live systems
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety, governance, and risk management
  • Commercial acumen and experience managing engineering contracts

Qualifications

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering
  • Chartered or Registered Engineer status (or equivalent)
