What if you could shape a career as unique as you?

At WSP, you can always find opportunities to grow and do what matters to you. Make the most of our global reach to discover new challenges and chances to work with diverse, talented individuals who will help you expand your horizons.

A little more about the role…

Bring your ambition, challenge convention and help shape the future of WSP’s Nuclear business.

This is more than a leadership role. It’s an opportunity to help build and grow WSP’s Nuclear capability, shaping strategy, winning major programmes and delivering some of the UK’s most significant projects. We’re looking for leaders who want to challenge conventional approaches, drive innovation and play a leading role in the future of nuclear delivery across clean-up, power generation, defence, and emerging fission and fusion programmes.

Backed by the scale, expertise and resources of over 12,500 colleagues across the UK, you’ll combine the excitement of building something new with the support of an established global organisation. Leveraging our strengths in civil, planning, consenting, environmental services, geoscience and major programme delivery, you’ll help shape major civil and defence nuclear opportunities from the earliest stages through to delivery.

If you’re motivated by creating lasting impact rather than maintaining the status quo, join us at a pivotal stage of growth and help define the next chapter of nuclear delivery at WSP.

The future isn’t already built. With us, you can help create it.

Your role…

Our Civil Nuclear team is helping to shape the future of low-carbon power generation and national defence infrastructure through the delivery of some of the UK’s most exciting and strategically important nuclear programmes. We deliver the complex infrastructure required for large-scale nuclear new build, emerging Small Modular Reactor (SMR) and Advanced Modular Reactor (AMR) technologies, decommissioning and critical defence nuclear projects, supporting the UK’s energy security, national resilience and net-zero ambitions.

As Technical Director, you will provide technical leadership and direction within WSP’s Civil Engineering discipline, leading multidisciplinary teams across these nationally significant programmes. Drawing on your extensive experience of nuclear new build and generation projects, you will play a pivotal role in developing innovative, high-quality design solutions while ensuring the highest standards of technical excellence and safety.

Day to day, you will:

  • Provide leadership across multidisciplinary engineering teams, driving high performance, technical excellence and quality delivery.
  • Lead, mentor and develop technical teams, fostering capability growth and supporting the next generation of nuclear professionals.
  • Oversee the delivery of complex engineering projects, ensuring compliance with technical, regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Lead and support major nuclear programmes, including SMR, AMR, GW-scale new build and operational nuclear generation projects.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor and senior point of contact across key accounts.
  • Drive business growth by identifying new opportunities, developing client relationships and contributing to market strategy and winning work.
  • Provide commercial oversight across project portfolios, including financial performance, budgeting, forecasting and contractual management.
  • Direct the delivery of complex engineering designs, assessments and safety cases, ensuring successful outcomes for clients and projects.
  • Champion innovative approaches and continuous improvement, enhancing project delivery, collaboration and operational effectiveness across teams.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
