Technical Director – Data Centre Solutions
Berkshire - Hybrid with some travel
£75,000 - £100,000 + annual bonus approx 25–30% of salary
We’re recruiting a newly created Technical Director role for a growing business operating within the data centre sector. Reporting directly to the CEO and joining the senior management team, this is an opportunity to take a highly visible role and directly influence the next stage of the company’s growth.
This isn’t a traditional operational Technical Director position. At its heart, this is a senior technical pre-sales and solutions role with a broader strategic remit.
You will have genuine data centre technical credibility and be comfortable in front of customers, working alongside sales on larger and more complex opportunities, leading technical discovery, shaping solutions and helping turn customer requirements into commercially viable business.
You may already be a Technical Director, but you could also be a Pre-Sales Director, Head of Pre-Sales, Solutions Director, Head of Solutions or Technical Solutions Director or similar and be ready for a broader leadership role.

What you’ll be doing:
- Act as the senior technical lead in complex customer meetings, bids and pre-sales opportunities
- Work alongside sales to understand customer requirements and shape technically sound, commercially viable solutions
- Provide senior input into proposals, scopes, solution designs and delivery models
- Identify and develop new services and propositions based on customer and market needs
- Provide technical advice and assurance on complex or higher-risk opportunities
- Develop strategic relationships with technology partners, suppliers and delivery partners
- Contribute to company strategy as part of the senior management team
This is initially a senior individual contributor role with no direct reports. You won’t be responsible for day-to-day operational delivery or expected to be hands-on delivering projects. Your value will come from your technical knowledge, customer credibility, commercial judgement and ability to influence across the business.

Who/what we’re looking for:
You’ll need strong experience within the data centre sector, with a good understanding of physical IT infrastructure and live, business-critical environments, particularly:
- Strong technical pre-sales, solutions or customer-facing technical experience
- Experience shaping complex, high-value opportunities from discovery through to solution
- A strong understanding of physical data centre infrastructure, hardware deployment, installation, migration and associated services
- The ability to communicate confidently with senior customers as well as technical and delivery teams
- Strong commercial awareness around pricing, margin, risk and deliverability
- Experience developing new services, solutions or propositions
- A strategic, entrepreneurial and pragmatic approach suited to a growing, agile business
