Technical Director

Our client, a well-established and highly respected industry federation, is looking to appoint an experienced Technical Director to lead its technical strategy and play a pivotal role in shaping the future direction of the organisation. Reporting directly to the CEO, this is a senior leadership role for a technically credible, commercially aware and forward-thinking individual.

You will be responsible for ensuring the organisation stays ahead of legislation, standards, regulation, competence and compliance, while providing practical and commercially relevant support to its members.

This position is based in Staffordshire - 5 days per week. Please note that due to the location, the site is not accessible via public transport, so access to your own vehicle is essential.

Your duties include:

  • Lead and develop the Technical Team, providing support and guidance
  • Represent the organisation with government, regulators, BSI, standards committees and industry bodies
  • Monitor emerging legislation and standards and assess their impact on members
  • Develop practical guidance, publications, webinars, training and technical initiatives
  • Provide authoritative advice on compliance, standards, product safety and best practice
  • Identify opportunities to improve member services and develop commercially valuable technical products
  • Build a strong technical team that provides advice to members, the public and government bodies
  • Build strong relationships across government, industry and memberships
  • Drive continuous improvement and ensure the organisation remains an industry authority

Requirements:

  • Possess previous experience working within a similar position
  • Be experienced within one or more relevant construction, engineering or manufacturing sectors is highly desirable
  • Have experience working with standards bodies, regulators, government or industry committees
  • Be proactive and driven with the ability to anticipate future issues, commercially aware, understanding the business impact of technical and regulatory change and technically credible, with strong knowledge of relevant legislation and standards
  • Be an excellent communicator who can translate complex requirements into clear, practical advice
  • Be confident representing an organisation at senior industry, government and standards meetings
  • Possess experience in leading teams and developing technical guidance, training or presentations
  • Be confident member of the Senior Leadership Team who possess drive and ambition
  • Create and present technical reports to the Board and at meetings

You will work directly with the CEO and leadership team, represent the organisation at a national and international level, influence standards and legislation, and help shape the services and support provided to members.
