Technical Director – Electrical (Mission Critical / Data Centres)
Harper Harrison are supporting a well established multi-disciplinary MEP consultancy is looking for a Technical Director with an Electrical background to help shape the next phase of growth for its Mission Critical team. You'll be joining a small, high-performing team of data centre designers and given real influence over how it grows, how it's structured, and where it goes next.
You'll work closely with the board, but the direction of travel for the electrical side of the business will be yours to help define. Expect a genuine seat at the table on strategy, not just delivery.
What you'll actually be doing
- Shaping the growth strategy for the Mission Critical electrical team, including structure, hiring, and capability
- Owning conceptual through detailed electrical design solutions for hyperscale, colocation, and edge data centre projects
- Acting as the technical authority on MV/LV distribution, substations, UPS, generators, small power, lighting, and lightning protection/earthing
- Building and mentoring a team of MEP engineers, with real input into how the team develops
- Representing the business externally at industry events and talks, building the firm's profile in the sector
- Holding commercial ownership of project and portfolio budgets, fee submissions, and bids
- Working directly with major clients including hyperscalers and large co-location operators
- Supporting the board on commercial, technical, and client-facing decisions across the sector

What you'll bring
- 10+ years of data centre design experience, ideally within a recognised UK engineering consultancy
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it), degree qualified in Electrical or Building Services Engineering
- Strong grasp of data centre tier rating systems and design risk around redundancy and resiliency
- Comfortable across hyperscale, colocation, and edge environments, and confident explaining the design trade-offs between them
- Working knowledge of Revit/BIM, ACC, BIM 360, and Navisworks
- A track record of winning and retaining client relationships, not just delivering against them
