Technical Documentation Writer (Software Documentation / Knowledge Management)
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne
Salary: £30,000 to £40,000
Type: Full-time, Permanent
Overview
An established, technology focused financial services organisation is looking to appoint a Technical Documentation Writer to support the development and maintenance of its internal knowledge base. This is a Junior to Mid Level opportunity, suited to someone with experience creating, reviewing or maintaining software documentation who enjoys making technical information clear, accurate and easy to understand.
You'll work closely with software developers, IT support teams and business stakeholders, creating documentation, reviewing articles produced by others and helping ensure content follows consistent standards. The organisation also uses Microsoft Copilot and AI assisted documentation processes, offering an opportunity to develop experience with modern documentation tools and approaches.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, review and maintain technical and business documentation
- Review knowledge base articles written by developers, support teams and business contributors
- Provide constructive feedback to improve documentation accuracy, consistency and usability
- Ensure content follows approved templates, style guides and terminology standards
- Work with technical specialists to gather, clarify and validate information
- Identify documentation gaps and help improve the quality of the central knowledge base
- Support colleagues with documentation queries and best practices
- Use Microsoft Copilot and approved AI tools to support documentation creation and review
- Organise knowledge base content and maintain accurate article records
- Contribute ideas to improve existing documentation processes and standards

Requirements
- Some commercial experience creating, updating or maintaining software documentation
- Basic understanding of software development concepts or a genuine interest in developing this knowledge
- Strong written communication skills and excellent attention to detail
- Experience proofreading, reviewing content and providing constructive feedback
- Ability to research and interpret technical information
- Experience following templates, style guides and documentation standards
- Good organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
- Confident using Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Outlook, Teams and Copilot

Desirable
- Experience using Document360 or a similar knowledge management platform
- Experience using Microsoft Copilot or other AI assisted documentation tools
- Understanding of database principles and SQL concepts
- Experience managing technical terminology and naming conventions
- Previous experience within financial services or another regulated environment
