Technical Engineer – Tactical Communications
£70,000 - £80,000
Gloucestershire | Office & Field Based
SR2 are working with a fast-growing UK defence technology business that is delivering next-generation tactical communications capability into the UK defence environment. Following a significant period of growth and the award of major programmes, they're looking for an experienced Technical Engineer specialising in Tactical Communications / TacCIS to join the team.
This isn't a role where you'll spend your entire week behind a desk. You'll be working hands-on with modern tactical radio and networked communications technology, helping configure, integrate, test and support systems that are being deployed into real operational environments. You'll also get out into the field, supporting customer exercises, trials, demonstrations and training.
This covers everything from radios, IP networking, cellular and SATCOM/BLOS through to RoIP, system integration, configuration, troubleshooting and user training.

What you'll be doing
- Becoming an SME across advanced tactical radio, waveform and communications technology
- Building and integrating tactical communications solutions across RF, IP networks, SATCOM/BLOS and RoIP
- Supporting field exercises, customer trials and demonstrations
- Configuring, programming and maintaining tactical communications equipment
- Troubleshooting and providing first-line technical support
- Supporting integration with third-party platforms and systems
- Developing training material and delivering training to end users
- Working closely with project teams on the delivery of new capability
What we're looking for
You'll ideally come from a military communications / TacCIS background and have around 4+ years' relevant experience.
Strong knowledge of tactical radio systems and RF fundamentals is important, alongside good networking knowledge. Experience with ATAK or other military GIS platforms, soldier systems, power/data integration or cloud infrastructure such as AWS/Azure would all be useful. CCNA, Network+ or similar networking knowledge is also desirable. These requirements reflect the client's original technical brief.
