The Role

TECHNICAL ENGINEER

To provide technical support to all business areas within Interior workshops where required. Responsibilities include technical decision-making activities for Maintenance & Manufacturing, technical support for products listed on the Approved Capability List, intake of new components and maintaining airworthiness and safety standards in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Support of other BA & OEM groups & programmes outside but within the scope of Interiors.

What You’ll Do

  • Ensure Product Quality is consistently sustained, in line with standards and customer requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with Airworthiness, Health/Safety, and Quality procedures.
  • Coach and mentor other colleagues.
  • Maintenance and correct use of operational, airworthiness and legislative documentation.
  • Oversee the smooth intake and introduction of new work.
  • Compile and act on Engineering Documents and instruct relevant colleagues on suitable ways to work aircraft interior components.
  • Conduct investigations and compile reports in support of AIR or Quality audits.
  • Support the requirements of all applicable airworthiness directives, airworthiness notices, service bulletins modifications and special checks into production.
  • Identify, specify, procure and introduce into uses special tools and relevant test equipment necessary to carry out production work.
  • Introduce amendments to manuals, correct errors and improve existing information processes.
  • Create Task Lists & Routings in support of production.
  • Assist colleagues with their technical decisions.
  • Carry out technical document reviews.
  • Present at various engineering support/development meetings.
  • Support & complete monthly action plan process to timescale.
  • Ensuring a working environment that reflects the BAEW Mission, Vision and Values.
  • Deputise for Compliance Manager when required.
  • Carry out other duties within their competency as required by Compliance Manager.

What You’ll Bring To British Airways

  • Knowledgeable in aircraft component maintenance and safety.
  • Skilled investigator, capable of applying root cause analysis to ensure implementation of robust error preventative measures.
  • Strong analytical skills, including statistics.
  • Proven ability of organisation and planning skills.
  • Able to undertake financial assessments including business cases, reports and capital sanctions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication including good presentation skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and application of other IT based task control programs.
  • Knowledge of metal, honeycomb and composite structures.
  • Demonstrate application of Health & Safety and Quality Systems.
  • Ability to impart information into a formal training course.

Your Experience

  • HNC (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering in Aerospace.
  • Practical experience in Mechanical or Electrical engineering within an Aerospace environment.
  • Approved graduate or apprentice programme.
  • Working knowledge of 21J design regulatory requirements.
  • Technical decision-making.
  • Engineering knowledge in a 145 discipline (Systems, Powerplant, Avionic, Interior, etc).
  • BA Technical Authorisation or Licence.
