About Q-Mass

Q-Mass are a market leading, global, sub-contract, precision machining supplier. Q-Mass are also a passionate manufacturing organisation providing world class precision machining to its customers specification and tolerances. Each customer’s products are manufactured by exceptional people using best-in-class machinery. Moreover, continuous re-investment in the business has seen our range of services increase organically to include 5-axis CNC Turning & Milling, EDM Spark & Wire erosion, Gun-Drilling, Honing, VAM threading and CMM Inspection. The sectors Q-Mass serve include Aerospace, Space, Defence, Renewables, O&G. Founded in 2006, Q-Mass has grown to employ nearly 50 people with an annual turnover approaching £12M from our base in East Kilbride. Following a very successful acquisition in 2024, which has enhanced the business even further, 2025 and beyond will be very exciting times ahead of growth and expansion for Q-Mass and as a result, we are now looking to expand our very talented workforce by recruiting a Technical Estimator/Cost Engineer to report into the Sales Director.

Job Overview

This brand newly created role which reports into the Sales Director represents a massive opportunity to support Q-Mass’ growth plans and therefore develop your career. The role will involve being the main interface between the Sales department, Engineering, Manufacturing and the Customer on all aspects of pricing and tendering for work.

Key Responsibilities

In this challenging and very rewarding role, your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Act as Q-Mass lead on all aspects of RFQ/RFP/Client Bids and Tendering work ensuring all necessary stakeholders are involved in the process and ensuring the highest standards and highest levels of attention to detail.
  • Act as Q-Mass lead on all aspects of Technical Estimating focusing on the cost of materials, transport, labour and equipment, obtaining quotes for all predicted requirements from sub-contractors and suppliers.
  • Manage suppliers effectively on an ongoing basis and agreeing appropriate costs to collate detailed price lists of materials etc needed on each job.
  • Purchase and procure all materials and equipment from suppliers where necessary.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to allow for a best pricing policy and a uniform approach to procurement, liaising closely with Engineering and Manufacturing.
  • Provide technical support and advice to both internal colleagues and external clients. This may include on the spot decision making for the completion of projects.
  • Engender a culture of ‘Continuous Improvement’ and embrace the Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality systems employed by the business.
  • Attend staff and client meetings where required.
  • Any other duties as required by your Line Manager.

  • Read and understand Engineering/ Manufacturing drawings.
  • Collating and presenting information clearly.
  • Project Management and managing internal relationships, across all departments and levels within the business.
  • Industrial Manufacturing industry knowledge.
  • Tendering knowledge.
  • Negotiating with Customers and Suppliers.
