About IndigoZest

IndigoZest is one of the UK’s leading premium smart home design and integration companies, with nearly two decades of experience. We design and deliver bespoke technology systems for high-end residential and commercial clients — from home automation and lighting design to home cinema, multi-zone audio/video, networking and shading.

Our head office is in Kings Langley, Hertfordshire, with showrooms at the Sky House Design Centre in Amersham and at Harrods in Knightsbridge. We are a small, talented team with very high standards. Everyone here thinks like an owner, and we take full responsibility for our projects from concept to completion.

The Role

This is a newly created position at the heart of our sales function. As Technical Estimator, you will take a client brief and turn it into an accurate, competitive technical specification and priced proposal — selecting the right systems and components, estimating the labour, and presenting it in a form the client can understand. Your work directly determines whether we win projects, and the quality of your estimates shapes the profitability of everything we deliver.

The role is pre-sales and requires an existing technical understanding of the systems we design and install. You will work closely with our Client Director and business development team, as well as our project managers. Over time, there is a clear path to taking on your own smaller client relationships and managing projects end-to-end.

What You’ll Be Doing

Your day-to-day will centre on:

  • Taking a client brief and specifying the right system for the property, the budget and the way the client lives
  • Selecting the systems and components for each project — control systems (Control4, Crestron), lighting (Lutron, Rako), audio/video distribution, networking, shading and climate control
  • Estimating labour and programming time, and building complete project costs with clear margin
  • Producing proposals that set out clearly what the client is buying and why each element is included
  • Attending client, architect and designer meetings to develop and clarify the brief
  • Responding to tenders for larger residential developments and commercial projects — producing competitive estimates at a system level, supported by benchmarks and estimation tools
  • Supporting our small works team with quotes for client upgrades and support projects
  • Assisting project managers with procurement — ensuring we source the right products at the right price and flagging where savings or substitutions are possible
  • Building and maintaining estimation tools and system benchmarks so that future quoting is faster and more consistent

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

As your knowledge of our client base grows, you’ll move towards:

  • Managing direct client relationships for smaller projects, from initial brief through to proposal and handover
  • Becoming the go-to person for a category of work that currently falls below our threshold for full project management

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Technical experience within the smart home, AV or building technology integration industry. This is a requirement for the role.
  • Working knowledge of control, lighting control, audio and video distribution, networking and shading systems — sufficient to select the right equipment and explain the reasoning behind it
  • The ability to read a client brief and translate it into an organised, accurate specification at the right price point
  • Confident communication with clients, architects and designers, and the ability to explain technical decisions in plain terms
  • Commercial awareness — you understand that every estimate either wins or loses work, and that margin matters
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with close attention to detail

Desirable:

  • Experience with an estimating or proposal platform such as WeQuote, D-Tools, Jetbuilt or SimPro
  • Manufacturer accreditations in Control4, Crestron, Lutron, Rako or similar
  • Experience with tender processes for residential development or commercial projects
  • Exposure to procurement in a project-based business
  • Familiarity with CAD or Visio. Drawings and cable schedules are produced elsewhere, so this is useful rather than essential.

This role will suit an experienced installation or commissioning engineer, programmer, technical designer or project manager from within our sector who is moving into pre-sales. Our quoting platform and commercial process can be taught; the technical knowledge cannot.

How We Work

At IndigoZest we hold ourselves to five values: Humility, Accountability, Empathy, Integrity and Drive. This is not a role for someone who waits to be told what to do. We want someone who takes ownership, closes the loop and brings energy to the work — even when the brief is imperfect or the deadline is tight.

You will need to ask good questions, push back when something doesn’t add up, and be honest about what you know and what you don’t. We will invest in your growth in return.

How to Apply

Send your CV and a short covering note to paul@indigozest.co.uk. We’d like to understand what draws you to this kind of role and the technical experience you’re bringing with you.
