A little about us
8 Financial Planning is a small, independent financial planning business based in Telford, Shropshire. We help individuals, families and business owners make better decisions about their money through proper financial planning - looking beyond individual products to understand what our clients want their lives and futures to look like.
Being a small business means every person in our team matters. We're not looking for someone to simply sit in the background processing paperwork. We're looking for an experienced Technical Financial Planning Administrator who wants to become an important part of our business and help us deliver a brilliant service to our clients.
The role
This isn't an entry-level administration position. A key purpose of this role is to take ownership of client administration following adviser meetings. Once actions and recommendations have been agreed, you'll take responsibility for progressing the administrative work, coordinating with clients, providers and other parties, and keeping cases moving through to completion.
We're looking for someone with at least two years' experience working within an IFA, wealth management or financial planning business who understands the financial planning process and is comfortable taking ownership of their work.
You'll work closely with our Financial Planner, Directors and outsourced support partners, taking responsibility for ensuring client administration progresses smoothly from adviser instruction through to completion. We want someone who doesn't need to be chased to chase someone else!
You'll be the sort of person who notices that something hasn't happened, follows it up, keeps the right people informed and takes satisfaction in getting things over the line.
As we're a small business, there will also be opportunities to get involved in improving our systems and processes. If you spot a better way of doing something, we want you to tell us.
What you'll be doing
Your responsibilities will include:
- Proactively communicating with clients throughout the administration process, keeping them informed of progress, next steps, delays and any outstanding information required, without waiting for them to chase us.
- Processing new business across pensions, investments, protection and other financial planning products.
- Obtaining and reviewing policy information, valuations, quotations, illustrations and supporting documentation.
- Managing Letters of Authority and obtaining information from providers.
- Managing client administration from instruction through to completion.
- Supporting pension transfers, investment business and other more technical cases.
- Liaising confidently with providers and platforms to resolve queries and outstanding requirements.
- Keeping cases moving and proactively following up outstanding actions.
- Preparing and coordinating administration for client reviews and Forward Planning Meetings.
- Processing recommendations and ensuring the appropriate documentation is completed accurately.
- Maintaining accurate client records, workflows and documentation within our CRM.
- Keeping the Financial Planner, Directors and relevant outsourced support partners updated on the progress of cases where appropriate.
- Communicating professionally and confidently with clients, providers and other professional connections.
- Making sure administration is completed accurately and in line with our processes and regulatory requirements.
- Helping us continually improve our systems, workflows and client experience.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
Graduate Consultant — 2026 Scheme
Why you're a good match
StrongYour economics background and your summer at a regional bank line up with what PwC looks for on the consulting scheme. Applications close in four weeks.
See breakdownIt searches the market for you
Every day your agent scans the market matching roles against what actually matters to you, not just keywords on a CV.
Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
Working with us
Working for a small financial planning business isn't quite the same as being one of many administrators within a large organisation.
You'll know the clients you're helping. You'll work directly with the people running the business. You'll see the impact of the work you do, and your ideas won't have to travel through five layers of management before somebody listens to them.
That also means we're looking for someone who is comfortable taking responsibility.
We want to give the right person trust, flexibility and autonomy, rather than continually looking over their shoulder.
As the business grows, we'd also like the role to grow with it, so there will be opportunities to take on greater responsibility in the future.
Who we're looking for
Experience is important for this role.
You'll need a minimum of two years' relevant experience within an IFA, wealth management or financial planning environment.
This role is therefore unlikely to suit someone looking for their first position within financial services.
You'll ideally:
- Have a good working knowledge of pensions and investments.
- Understand the financial planning process from recommendation through to implementation.
- Have experience dealing with financial platforms and product providers.
- Be comfortable managing cases independently.
- Have excellent attention to detail.
- Understand the importance of compliance and accurate record keeping.
- Be highly organised and able to manage competing priorities.
- Take ownership of tasks and follow them through to completion.
- Be proactive rather than waiting to be told what to do next.
- Communicate confidently and professionally.
- Be comfortable working independently from home.
- Enjoy being part of a small team where everyone contributes.
- Be willing to question how things are done and suggest improvements where appropriate.
We currently use Plannr CRM, Fundment so experience with either would be useful, but it isn't essential. Experience with similar financial planning CRMs and platforms is absolutely fine.

Financial planning qualifications would also be welcomed but aren't essential. For this particular role, we're more interested in your practical experience, technical knowledge and approach to getting things done.
Where will you work
The role is predominantly home-based, so applications are welcome from across the UK.
However, our office is in Telford, Shropshire, and there will be occasions when we'll want the team together for meetings, training, planning and other business activities.
For that reason, we'd particularly welcome applications from people based in the West Midlands and surrounding areas who can reasonably travel to Telford when required.

Why has this particular role caught your attention, and what would make you excited to become part of a small financial planning business like ours?
Don't worry about production quality. We're definitely not looking for a polished presentation or professionally edited video.
A quick recording on your phone is absolutely fine. We'd much rather see the real you.
Don't fancy being on camera? That's completely fine.
You can send us a short written response to the same question instead. Choosing the written option won't disadvantage your application.
What happens next

We look forward to hearing from you.
