Technical Joinery & Furniture Designer / Draughtsman

Origins Design is a family-run furniture company specialising in bespoke upholstery, cabinetry and joinery for luxury residential and commercial interiors. For over 30 years, we’ve been a trusted manufacturing partner to interior designers, architects and developers, creating bespoke pieces tailored to each project. Everything is produced in-house and under one roof, allowing our design and production teams to work closely together from concept through to manufacture and final installation.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Technical Joinery & Furniture Designer / Draughtsman to join our team. This is a technical and production-focused role for someone with a strong understanding of bespoke fitted joinery and furniture construction, and proven experience taking designs through to detailed drawings for manufacture. You will be responsible for developing concepts and design information into accurate, fully detailed production drawings that can be used directly by our workshop team. You’ll work closely with our designers, workshop and project teams to resolve technical details, ensure designs are practical to manufacture and help deliver projects to the highest standard.
Responsibilities
- Producing detailed production and manufacturing drawings for bespoke fitted joinery, cabinetry and furniture.
- Developing designs from architects’ and interior designers’ drawings, sketches and concepts into accurate technical drawings.
- Drawing fitted and freestanding furniture.
- Producing detailed plans, elevations, sections, construction details and setting-out drawings.
- Detailing construction methods, materials, finishes, hardware, fixings and installation requirements.
- Ensuring drawings are sufficiently detailed and accurate for the workshop to manufacture from.
- Working closely with the workshop to resolve technical and manufacturing issues.
- Liaising with designers, architects, project managers and suppliers where required.
- Carrying out site visits and surveys where necessary, including taking accurate measurements for fitted joinery.
- Supporting projects through manufacture and installation, helping to resolve any technical queries that arise.
- Working collaboratively with the wider team from concept through to final installation.

Qualifications
- Proven experience in bespoke fitted joinery, with a strong understanding of how joinery is constructed, manufactured and installed.
- Previous experience producing detailed drawings specifically for production/manufacture.
- Strong practical knowledge of furniture and joinery construction, materials and finishes.
- Proficiency in Rhino or SolidWorks is essential.
- Ability to take a design concept and develop it into a complete set of accurate production drawings.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and interior design drawings.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of technical accuracy.
- Good understanding of tolerances, construction methods and installation requirements.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a practical approach to design.
- Ability to communicate effectively with designers, workshop teams and project managers.
- Comfortable managing your own workload and working to project deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills and must be fluent in written and spoken English.

Required Skills
We’re looking for someone who understands the difference between a design drawing and a drawing that can actually be manufactured from. You’ll have a strong eye for detail, but equally importantly, you’ll understand how things are made. You’ll be confident questioning a design where necessary, finding practical solutions and working closely with the workshop to make sure the finished piece is both beautifully considered and technically sound. Experience within high-end residential interiors, bespoke furniture or specialist joinery would be highly advantageous.
