🚀 AI Engineering Tech Lead | Energy Trading & Shipping | London Hybrid | 6 Month Contract

Start Date - ASAP | Rate - £600 - £650/ Day

We're supporting a global energy trading organisation looking for an experienced AI Engineering Tech Lead to join their Innovation team and drive the development of cutting-edge AI solutions across trading and shipping operations. This is a hands-on leadership role combining AI engineering, stakeholder engagement, and commercial decision-making. You'll work directly with traders, analysts, and business leaders to identify opportunities, build AI Proofs of Concept (PoCs), and scale successful solutions into production.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead a portfolio of AI and GenAI Proofs of Concept from idea through to production
  • Build and deploy:
    • LLM-powered applications
    • Agentic AI solutions
    • RAG architectures
    • AI-driven workflow automation
    • Market data and trading system integrations
  • Work closely with trading desks and front-office stakeholders to solve real business problems
  • Define success metrics, business value, and scale-or-stop decisions
  • Establish engineering best practices around testing, monitoring, evaluation, security, and governance
  • Lead a small engineering team and collaborate with senior business stakeholders

What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years in Software Engineering, AI Engineering, or Machine Learning Engineering
  • Strong Python development background
  • Experience building production-grade AI/LLM applications
  • Expertise with RAG, Agents, Prompt Engineering, and AI evaluation frameworks
  • Azure or AWS cloud experience
  • Strong understanding of APIs, SQL, data pipelines, and market data
  • Proven track record taking AI solutions from PoC to production
  • Experience leading teams and managing senior stakeholders

Highly Desirable

  • ⭐ Commodities Trading, Energy Trading, or Shipping experience
  • ⭐ Experience working directly with traders, front-office teams, quants, or market analysts
  • ⭐ Knowledge of trading platforms such as Endur, Allegro, or similar trading/risk systems
  • ⭐ Understanding of market data, P&L, pricing, risk, and trading operations
