Technical Lead
London / Hybrid
£110-130k
The Opportunity
This is a rare chance to lead technically without stepping away from the code. You'll set the technical direction for a small, ambitious engineering team, working alongside the Director of Engineering to turn product goals into pragmatic designs and carry important work through to production. It's a hands-on role built on influence and credibility, not headcount.
What You'll Be Doing
- Provide hands-on technical leadership from discovery and design through to implementation, release, and production validation
- Translate product and business goals into clear technical approaches, keeping solutions proportionate to the problem
- Design, build, and review software across a.NET, TypeScript, and Python estate, stepping into complex or high-risk work when needed
- Set and reinforce practical engineering standards across architecture, testing, security, observability, and documentation
- Mentor engineers through pairing, design reviews, and constructive code review, broadening ownership across the team
- Partner closely with the Senior Platform Software Engineer on reliability, CI/CD, GitOps, and infrastructure automation
- Help diagnose tricky production issues and turn them into durable fixes and useful runbooks
- Champion thoughtful, responsible use of LLMs and coding agents across planning, implementation, testing, and documentation

What We're Looking For
- Strong experience leading the technical delivery of production software while remaining a regular, credible contributor to the codebase
- Sound system design judgment across APIs, distributed services, data flows, and cloud-native applications
- Commercial experience with more than one of.NET, TypeScript/Node.js, and Python, plus comfort working across unfamiliar codebases
- Practical knowledge of AWS, Kubernetes, and modern delivery practices, including CI/CD, GitOps, and observability
- A track record of simplifying systems and improving reliability without losing sight of customer value

Bonus Points If You Have
- Experience building AI-enabled product features, RAG systems, or production LLM integrations
- Exposure to high-volume ingestion, queues, search, embeddings, or vector databases
- Knowledge of infrastructure as code, cloud cost optimization, or platform engineering at AWS scale
