Role: Lead Software Engineer | Greenfield Product | Java / Kafka
Location: Welwyn Garden City – Hybrid, 2–3 days per week
Salary: Up to £100,000 + bonus + excellent benefits
I'm partnering with a household-name business on one of its most ambitious technology programmes – building a greenfield project from the ground up.
This is a Lead-level individual contributor role. No people management. No stepping away from engineering.
You'll be hands-on while providing technical leadership across:
- Greenfield product development
- Java & Spring Boot
- Kafka / event-driven architecture
- Distributed, latency-sensitive systems
- Low-level architecture, domain boundaries, and contracts
- SQL & NoSQL
- Cloud – Azure, AWS, or GCP
- Mentoring and raising engineering standards
- Working directly with Product, vendors, operations, and store technology
