Tech Lead (Hands-On) | Manchester, Hybrid | Up to £90,000
We're hiring a Tech Lead to own technology and delivery from idea through to production. This is not a distant management role. You will stay hands-on, guide architecture and technical decisions, and lead and mentor a small team of 2 to 3 engineers while working closely with Product, Design and the wider business.
What you will be doing
- Leading design and build of next-generation digital experiences combining real-time data, interactive graphics and audience participation
- Setting technical direction and making pragmatic architecture decisions across cloud platforms and reusable product capabilities
- Developing engineers and building a "build it, own it, run it" culture
- Connecting engineering decisions to customer and commercial value
- Championing AI-assisted engineering and modern ways of working

Tech stack
New builds are predominantly JavaScript, Node.js and TypeScript on AWS, with occasional work on a legacy Java platform. You will also work with APIs, serverless and event-driven systems, real-time data, CI/CD, observability and DevOps.
What we are looking for
- Strong software engineering background delivering production systems, still hands-on today
- Experience leading, mentoring or setting technical direction for engineers
- Solid grasp of modern architecture with practical cloud experience (AWS preferred, Azure or GCP fine)
- Strong communication, ownership and decision-making
- A positive attitude towards AI-assisted software development
- Available to start within one month

Package
- Up to £90,000 base salary
- Hybrid: two office days per week (Wednesday and Thursday) in central Manchester
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
