My client is a fast-growing and very exciting tech company.
They are now seeking a strategic and delivery-focused Technical Lead / Architect to lead the technical delivery of a Compute & Storage Services programme.
The role will involve running a structured Due Diligence phase to validate the current estate technically and commercially, then lead two concurrent workstreams: Sustain (stabilise, operate, optimise) and Transformation (migrate, modernise, decommission).
You’ll act as Technical Authority and Design Authority, setting standards, approving designs, and ensuring outcomes are secure, compliant, costed, and supportable.
Key responsibilities:
- Own service stabilisation plan, patching, capacity/uplift, monitoring, backup/restore posture, DR test cadence.
- Chair Technical Change Advisory for major changes; ensure documentation/runbooks are complete.
- Drive incident/problem trend reduction and performance/availability improvements aligned to SLAs.
- Lead low-level designs (LLDs) and migration waves: server/VM, storage platform changes, AD/domain remediation, app/platform moves (private cloud/public cloud where applicable).
- Direct data centre exit/relocation tasks, decommissioning, and service cutovers with tested rollback.
- Serve as Design Authority across partners and suppliers; set patterns/standards and approve deviations.
- Mentor/lead cross-functional engineers (infrastructure, cloud, network, security, DR/backup).
- Interface with customer stakeholders, third parties, and auditors.
- Ensure clean handoffs, support models, and knowledge transfer to BAU teams.

Required experience:
- Proven leadership of large, multi-year infrastructure programmes (public sector advantageous).
- Track record as Technical/Design Authority across enterprise & solution architecture, including migrations and data centre transitions.

Deep knowledge across:
- Compute/Virtualisation: VMware/Hyper-V, Windows/Linux, lifecycle/patching.
- Storage & Backup/DR: SAN/NAS/SDS, replication, DRaaS, RTO/RPO design and testing.
- Networking & Security: segmentation, firewalls, load-balancing, certificates, IAM/AD.
- Cloud & Hybrid: private cloud and at least one public cloud (Azure/AWS); connectivity and landing zones.
- Tooling & Ops: monitoring/observability, CMDB/ITSM (e.g., ServiceNow), automation/IaC.
- Commercial acumen: BoM creation/validation, licensing approaches, cost modelling, and change control.
- Compliance-aware delivery (ISO 27001/NCSC guidance, GDPR; PSN/PCI-DSS exposure beneficial).
