Associate: Technical Lead
Commercial, with residential welcome | London studio | Permanent | up to £65,000
An established London architecture practice is looking for an Associate to take technical ownership of its delivery work. This is a senior, hands-on appointment created because the practice has grown its commercial delivery faster than its technical bench, and it wants that expertise sitting in the London studio full time.
The practice has a long record of commercial work, particularly refurbishment, and has recently won a major commercial project with a team of around ten on it. Alongside that sit large residential and regeneration schemes. What is missing is one person who genuinely knows how to put a building together and can be the point of reference for everyone else.
The shape of the role
You would run one or two projects yourself, so this is not a purely advisory post. Around that, you would act as the technical authority for the studio: the person colleagues come to when a detail, a specification, a compliance question or a site issue needs resolving.

The focus is commercial. If you also bring residential experience, that is a real advantage, because it lets you support the regeneration and residential teams too rather than being tied to one sector. That breadth is what the practice is hoping to find.
What you would be doing
- Leading technical delivery on one or two live commercial projects, from developed design through to completion
- Acting as the studio's go-to person for technical queries across all sectors
- Owning detailing, specification and construction information quality
- Advising on Building Regulations, the Building Safety Act and gateway requirements
- Supporting and mentoring the wider team, raising the technical standard across the office
- Working closely with contractors and consultant teams on site
What they are looking for
- Qualified architect at Associate level
- Genuine depth in commercial delivery, ideally including refurbishment of existing buildings
- Residential or regeneration delivery experience alongside it would be a strong plus
- Confident on current UK regulations, including the Building Safety Act regime
- Someone others naturally bring problems to: approachable, decisive, happy to mentor
- Based in or able to be in the London studio regularly
