Technical Lead
Location: Newcastle (5 days onsite)
Salary: £80,000 - £120,000 depending on experience
We’re supporting a rapidly growing defence technology consultancy as they continue to build a team of exceptional engineers delivering complex solutions across defence and national security environments.
They are looking for experienced Technical Leads who can combine hands-on engineering expertise with technical leadership, helping shape solutions, mentor engineers, and work directly with clients.
This is an opportunity to have genuine influence in a growing organisation, taking ownership of technical direction and delivering impactful projects.

- Leading multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Remaining hands-on with technical delivery
- Setting technical direction, architecture, and engineering standards
- Making design decisions and managing technical trade-offs
- Running code reviews and design reviews
- Mentoring engineers across different experience levels
- Working directly with clients to understand requirements and deliver solutions
- Supporting estimation, planning, and delivery activities
- Identifying and managing technical debt
What we're looking for:
- Strong software engineering background
- Experience leading technical teams or complex engineering projects
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience with modern engineering practices including:
- CI/CD
- Infrastructure as Code
- Cloud platforms
- Automated testing
- Containerisation and orchestration
- Strong ownership mindset and ability to operate in ambiguous environments
- Experience within defence, national security, consulting, or other highly regulated environments would be advantageous.
