Contract Tech Lead | Java | iGaming | Up to £600/day | Outside IR35 | 6 Months | Fully Remote

We're looking for an experienced Tech Lead to join a product-focused engineering team, working on scalable, cloud-based applications within the iGaming industry.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role, combining strong Java engineering expertise with technical ownership, stakeholder management and team leadership. You'll act as a key link between engineering, product and wider business stakeholders, helping to shape technical direction and ensure teams deliver high-quality solutions.

What you'll be doing

  • Providing technical leadership and direction across engineering teams.
  • Designing, developing and maintaining Java applications, microservices and REST APIs.
  • Working closely with Product, Engineering and business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.
  • Acting as a key point of contact between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Communicating complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Leading technical discussions, design sessions and architectural decision-making.
  • Supporting engineers through mentoring, technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
  • Identifying technical risks, dependencies and opportunities for improvement and communicating these effectively.
  • Helping teams deliver scalable, maintainable and well-tested software within an agile environment.
  • Contributing to engineering standards, best practices and continuous improvement.

What we're looking for

  • Strong commercial experience with Java and Spring Boot.
  • Previous experience as a Tech Lead, Technical Lead, Senior Engineer or similar.
  • Strong understanding of REST APIs, microservices and distributed systems.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, development practices and testing.
  • Proven experience leading technical discussions and influencing technical decisions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Comfortable working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience mentoring and supporting other engineers.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to balance technical requirements with wider business needs.
