Technical Lead

Salary: £70,000
Location: Manchester - Hybrid

Maxwell Bond have partnered with a Manchester technology organisation specialising in data-driven insights and digital platforms, who are looking for an experienced Technical Lead to join their engineering team on a permanent basis.

As Technical Lead, you'll lead a small team of software engineers responsible for building and maintaining modern web applications, dashboards and APIs that support large-scale market research data collection, participant engagement and client integrations.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer or existing Tech Lead looking to take the next step in leadership, combining hands-on technical direction, people management and ownership of delivery across a key product area.

What you'll do as Technical Lead:

  • Own delivery for your team, managing scope, sequencing and technical priorities while working closely with Product and Engineering stakeholders.
  • Shape the evolution of modern web applications and APIs, contributing to architecture, system design, engineering best practices and technical improvements.
  • Lead and develop a small team of software engineers, providing regular 1:1s, feedback, coaching and career development while supporting hiring and onboarding.

What We're Looking for:

  • Proven experience with modern web and backend systems, preferably PHP/Laravel, JavaScript/TypeScript and AWS Serverless technologies.
  • Strong understanding of software delivery, architecture and engineering trade-offs, with the confidence to challenge assumptions and drive improvements across scalability, maintainability, quality and performance.
  • Experience managing or mentoring software engineers with a clear and collaborative approach, working across Product and Engineering teams, alongside an interest in automation, AI tooling and developing as a people leader.
