Network Technical Lead / Manager | Cisco & Datacentre

£70,000–£75,000 | Remote | Player-Manager

IP-People are partnering with a cloud and managed services provider to recruit a Network Technical Lead / Manager to take technical ownership of its network platform and lead a team of five Network Engineers.

This isn’t a traditional management role. We’re looking for someone who remains technically strong and hands-on, while taking greater ownership of the platform, technical direction and development of the team.

The role

You’ll take ownership of a highly available, multi-datacentre network environment, covering core datacentre networking, WAN, customer connectivity, edge and network security. You’ll remain a senior technical escalation point, lead and develop the engineering team, and help shape how the network platform evolves. A key part of that evolution will be automation and Infrastructure as Code, standardising builds, reducing manual processes and improving engineering efficiency.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Exposure to Ansible, Python or Terraform would be a real advantage, alongside exposure to OpenStack/Linux networking.

This could suit a Senior/Lead Network Engineer ready for more ownership and leadership, or an existing hands-on Technical Manager who wants to remain close to the technology.
