Contract Length: 12 months
Location Hybrid working – approximately 40% office attendance (2 days per week)
Office Locations: London, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff
IR35: Inside IR35
Rate: Up to £720 per day (Umbrella)
Security Clearance: SC Clearance required
We are looking for an experienced Technical Lead with strong Python and Django expertise to join a high-profile digital transformation programme delivering secure and resilient technology solutions.
This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who combines deep technical capability with strong leadership skills. You will provide technical direction across agile delivery teams while remaining hands-on with software development.
You will work with multidisciplinary teams to design, build and improve complex digital services, helping shape technical decisions and driving engineering excellence.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership across agile engineering teams
- Design and deliver scalable solutions using Python and Django
- Lead technical design, architecture and solution discussions
- Guide engineering practices, coding standards and quality assurance
- Support delivery across multiple technical workstreams
- Mentor and coach developers
- Collaborate with product, design, analysis and delivery teams
- Ensure services are secure, reliable and maintainable
- Support continuous improvement of engineering processes and tooling
Essential Skills & Experience
- Extensive commercial experience with Python development
- Strong hands-on experience with Django
- Proven experience in software architecture and system design
- Experience leading engineering teams or agile squads
- Ability to make sound technical decisions in complex environments
- Experience delivering secure, scalable and resilient services
- Strong understanding of modern engineering practices
- Excellent stakeholder communication skills
- Experience mentoring and supporting other developers
- 8+ years’ experience preferred

- Government digital delivery experience
- Experience within regulated or secure environments
- Public sector, defence or large-scale enterprise experience
- Cloud-based platforms and integrated digital services
- Understanding of accessibility and digital service standards
