Software Technical Lead – Full Stack Java
Salary: Up to £85,000
Location: Remote first + 2 days a month onsite in client locations
Clearance: SC clearable (you must be a British citizen and have lived permanently in the UK for the last 5 years)
The Opportunity
We're looking for an experienced Software Technical Lead to join a growing consultancy working on complex, mission-critical government projects. You’ll be working on code that actually makes the UK a safer place to live. Working in a secure environment, this role will require SC clearance – if you don’t already have this, the client can put you through it.
This is a great role for a Senior/Lead Engineer who is looking for a step up, or someone who wants to stay hands-on while taking ownership of technical direction. You'll lead engineers, shape architecture and design decisions, and work directly with clients to turn complex problems into high-quality software.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
