Technical Lead | Water & Wastewater | AMP8 Capital Delivery | South of England

Finlay Jude Recruitment is recruiting on behalf of a leading organisation within the UK water sector for an experienced Technical Lead to support the successful delivery of major clean water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior engineering professional to provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of AMP projects, ensuring engineering solutions are safe, compliant, innovative, and deliver long-term value for clients, customers, and the environment.

Required across Anglian Water, Thames Water and Southern Water regions

The Role

As Technical Lead, you will act as the technical authority across a portfolio of water and wastewater capital projects, providing engineering leadership from concept through to completion.

Working closely with clients, delivery teams, designers, and operational stakeholders, you will ensure technical excellence, compliance, and best practice throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership across clean water, wastewater, and associated infrastructure projects.
  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams through feasibility, optioneering, detailed design, construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Review and approve technical designs, calculations, specifications, and engineering deliverables.
  • Chair technical reviews, design assurance meetings, and governance gateways.
  • Ensure compliance with client standards, industry regulations, and corporate governance requirements.
  • Champion Safety by Design principles and support CDM 2015 responsibilities.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate technical risks throughout project delivery.
  • Support programme planning, commercial decision-making, and change management activities.
  • Act as the primary technical interface between clients, design partners, and delivery teams.
  • Drive innovation, engineering best practice, digital delivery, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor and develop engineers and technical professionals across the business.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have a strong technical background within the UK water industry, combined with proven leadership experience across complex infrastructure programmes.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Process Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience delivering engineering solutions within the UK water and wastewater sector.
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong understanding of water industry standards, regulations, and technical governance processes.
  • Knowledge of CDM 2015, construction practices, process safety, and Health & Safety legislation.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and client-facing communication skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness and problem-solving ability.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards).
  • Experience delivering AMP framework projects.
  • Previous experience working within Anglian Water, Thames Water, or Southern Water frameworks.
