Job Location: Plymouth
Shift Pattern:
- Monday - Friday, 9am - 5:30pm.
- 40 hours per week.

The purpose of this role is to provide technical leadership across both sites, ensuring consistently high standards of food safety, quality, regulatory compliance and customer requirements. The role will develop and strengthen technical teams, systems and capabilities, creating a consistent technical culture and maximising knowledge and resources across the business. The role will lead key technical and compliance activities, including HACCP, process controls, packaging and labelling, export requirements and customer standards, while acting as a key technical contact for major customers and supporting the growth of new business opportunities.
Working collaboratively across the business, the role will lead critical projects, support the successful introduction of new products and processes, and ensure technical resources and budgets are effectively managed to support the company's operational and strategic objectives.
Duties:
Leadership and Management
- Ensure that our company’s technical values, policies and objectives are understood and delivered across the site. Lead the Site Technical team to ensure that they develop and manage QA/technical expertise. Ensure they are clear on expectations and have the knowledge, skills and behaviours they need to deliver to their maximum potential performance.
- Manage a program of development that will ensure that our technical teams achieve a level of technical excellence within our industry.
- Take lead responsibility for the setting of and adherence to the technical budget.
- Key contribution to delivering innovative NPD strategy.
- Work with others in the business to ensure that the technical teams are able to help deliver the Company’s NPD strategy on time and to a high standard.
- Ensure the technical teams have the necessary skills and knowledge to be able to review and sign-off packaging requirements, ensuring they meet labelling and other relevant legislative regulations for the Countries in which product will be sold.
- Ensure the technical teams have the necessary skills and knowledge to advise on relevant food and packaging legislation for the countries in which they are to be sold.
- Provide Technical support during the NPD process around approval of new suppliers, products and processes.
- Ensure that the technical teams provide the necessary support to enable the training of the wider operations team to be able to deliver new products and processes.

Lead Quality and Hygiene standards
- Ensure site wide adherence to hygiene and quality standards and develop and deliver technical training strategy.
- The role is the conduit between customer and our manufacturing sites.
- The role will ensure that product meets the customer standard.
- Ensure that the production teams fully understand the customer standard.
- Initiatives, aspirations or concerns of customer are fully communicated back to the manufacturing sites.
- Effectively communicate to customers the status of the manufacturing conditions, challenges and initiatives and working collaboratively to a solution.
- Provide comprehensive complaints and quality data pertaining to the products supplied.
- The job holder will provide data to our customer that demonstrates adherence to KPIs and Joint Quality Plan. (J.Q.P.)
- Ensure that operating systems are compliant with BRC, EHO and TSO standards.
- Ensure a commonality of systems across both sites. Ensure that development of our technical systems are coordinated across the site. Ensure that there is a coordinated approach to the maintenance of customer specific requirements across the site.
- Ensure a commonality of approach with regard to the setting, measurement and reporting of technical KPI’s.
- Ensure effective communication between the wider Technical teams, to allow us to maximise the benefit of our combined skills base. Develop a system of cross-site audits and reviews.

Critical role
- Ensuring Company’s compliance with key legislation – both UK and export based.
- Delivering a program of technical continuous improvement across both sites.
- Responsible for ensuring the Company is audit ready and non-compliances have been addressed.
- Management of budget.
- Management of team.
- Role interacts with a wide range of internal and external customers: Sales, Logistics, Finance etc., QSHE Director, Board and Leadership team –advising on technical issues, Key customers.
Qualifications & Skills
Essential
- Substantial experience working as a Technical Manager or a similar role in Food Manufacturing.
- Degree in Food, Science, Manufacturing.
- In-depth knowledge legal labelling and customer’s policies.
- Internal and external auditing experience.
- In-depth knowledge of technical and food safety legislation.
- Good general IT skills including Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of retailer technical systems and libraries.

Salary: Up to £63,000
