Manage the SPRA Technical Committee and SPRA Sustainability Committee

• Arrange and host both virtual and physical meetings of the SPRA Technical Committee, SPRA Sustainability Committee and associated working groups;
• Draft meeting agendas in collaboration with the respective Chairs;
• Lead several agenda items;
• Write and circulate the minutes of the meetings to respective Committee members

Lead the drafting, publication and regular review of expert technical guidance

• Author, publish and regularly review expert technical guidance and component quality standards on behalf of the Association;
• Consult members and external subject experts to develop knowledge to inform expert technical guidance;
• Work with representatives of associated flat roofing sector trade associations to draft joint position papers, responses to consultations and expert technical guidance;
• Author occasional articles for trade press

General Responsibilities

• Attend regular virtual meetings of the SPRA executive team;
• Maintain the customer relationship management system and shared folders;
• Support the Membership Manager to audit prospective SPRA membership applications and responses to existing members’ annual audit questionnaires;
• Represent the Association at internal and external events;
• Contribute to other aspects of the Association’s work, such as events, marketing, sponsorship opportunities, training, website development etc. when required

Knowledge

You must have knowledge of

• Flat roof design and construction, including detailing, fire safety, refurbishment and wind uplift resistance;
• Waterproofing materials (ideally plastic and rubber sheets for roof waterproofing); thermal insulation; Air and Vapour Control Layers; structural decks/slabs; and the various methods of attachment;
• Relevant legislation, statutory guidance and British and European standards;
• Current SPRA, flat roofing sector, and wider construction industry technical guidance;
• Third-party certification; and
• Typical building methodologies

Knowledge of the following is desirable

• Building Safety Act 2022;
• Construction Products Regulations;
• Conformity assessment;
• Code for Construction Product Information;
• Health and safety;
• Environmental Product Declaration;
• LEXiCON; and
• Sustainability-related issues

Experience

You must provide evidence of a minimum of ten years of relevant experience. Such experience may comprise one or more of the following examples, though each application will be considered on its own merits

• Level 6 qualification (degree apprenticeship, degree with honours, level 6 NVQ);
• Work for a single ply membrane or other construction product manufacturer in a specification or technical role;
• Work for a flat roofing contractor in a design, estimating, surveying and/or technical role;
• Work for (or a significant contribution to the work of) another trade association

Behaviours

This is a flexible, self-employed, remote role that demands a minimum commitment of three days per week. You must be self-motivated; organised; proactive; and able to work both collaboratively and independently. An approachable, flexible and professional attitude is essential.

Most meetings will be virtual, although occasional travel to events and meetings will be required. Any reasonable expenses incurred will be reimbursed.

A daily rate (excluding VAT if applicable) will be agreed with the successful candidate, with all invoices paid monthly.

As the SPRA Technical Manager represents all SPRA members, a high degree of confidentiality and impartiality must be exercised. Any conflicts of interest must be declared at application stage.
