Technical Manager

My client are looking for an experienced Technical Manager to join the Precision Engineering team based near Plymouth.

The role will be 39 hours a week, 07:30-16:30 Monday – Thursday, 07:30 – 12:30 on a Friday. You will be reporting directly to the General Manager, working within a small management team in a highly dynamic company so will need to be comfortable working quickly and independently at times.

Responsibilities:

  • Quoting and liaising with customers
  • Processing orders and supporting production
  • Continuous improvement (5S and lean manufacturing principles)
  • Supporting sales functions
  • Specific customer account management and ownership
  • Monitoring and maintaining quality standards
  • Overseeing and managing ISO 9001 compliance
  • Reporting directly to the General Manager and supporting them with day-to-day business activities

Experience and skills:

  • Previous technical/operational management experience within an engineering SME
  • Preferably time-served apprenticeship in toolmaking/machining/welding/fabrication
  • HNC in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification
  • Knowledge of engineering techniques (machining, welding, fabrication) sufficient enough to quote, advise customers and guide production
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing techniques and 5S principles
  • Commercial awareness
  • Ability to work within a small team and be multidisciplined when needed
  • Dedicated, driven and reliable

Salary

  • £45-50k depending on experience
  • 25 days annual leave + bank hols (1 additional day per year to a max of 27 days)
  • Annual bonus subject to company performance. Up to 20% achievable.
  • Company share scheme soon to be available.
