CVC DIF, the infrastructure strategy of leading global private markets manager CVC, is the majority shareholder in Low Carbon. Working alongside MassMutual, CVC DIF will enable Low Carbon to significantly expand its installed capacity and drive the next stage of growth as a diversified, leading next-generation IPP.

Role Description

We are looking for a skilled and hands-on Technical Manager based in our Gloucester office to support the delivery of high-quality operations and maintenance services within our Low Carbon Technical Team. In this role, you will lead day-to-day technical activities including asset monitoring, remote diagnostics, performance analysis, technical support, and the management of critical operational technology infrastructure. You will act as the technical lead for communications networks, SCADA systems, and operational cyber security, ensuring the secure, reliable, and efficient operation of our renewable energy portfolio. Reporting directly to the Head of Technical Services, you will play a key role in maintaining operational excellence and driving continuous improvement across our assets.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Asset Monitoring & Performance Management

    • Perform daily monitoring of operational assets to ensure optimal performance and availability.
    • Analyse asset performance data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and technical faults.
    • Perform root cause analysis and support continuous improvement initiatives based on data insights.
    • Identify opportunities to improve asset reliability, efficiency, and operational performance.
  2. Remote Fault Diagnosis & Reactive Maintenance

    • Coordinate first-line reactive maintenance activities via remote access to site systems.
    • Perform and oversee remote fault diagnostics, troubleshooting alarms, and resolving issues in real time.
    • Ensure accurate documentation of faults, interventions, and corrective actions.
  3. Remote Operations & Compliance

    • Execute and supervise remote control operations including:
      • Safe isolation procedures
      • Grid compliance actions
      • PPA pricing adjustments and operational requirements
    • Ensure all remote operations are undertaken safely and in accordance with operational procedures and regulatory requirements.

  1. Fault Reporting & Stakeholder Communication

    • Ensure timely and accurate fault notifications to relevant stakeholders, including:
      • Clients
      • Grid operators
      • PPA off-takers
    • Maintain records of incidents in accordance with contractual, regulatory, and compliance requirements.
    • Provide technical updates and recommendations following major incidents or asset performance issues.
  2. Technical Support & Team Collaboration

    • Act as the primary technical support contact for on-site technicians and internal teams.
    • Collaborate with the Asset Management team to provide expert input on technical matters and performance issues.
    • Develop and maintain technical documentation, operating procedures, and best practice guidance.
    • Support training and mentoring of operational personnel on technical systems and processes.
  3. Communications, SCADA & Operational Technology

    • Act as the subject matter expert for communications infrastructure, SCADA systems, telemetry, and remote monitoring platforms across the operational portfolio.
    • Manage and support the maintenance of communications networks, routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, cellular communications, and remote access infrastructure supporting operational assets.
    • Ensure the reliability, availability, and resilience of SCADA and communications systems to maximise asset uptime.
    • Onboard and support the integration, commissioning, and optimisation of new operational assets and associated communications infrastructure.
    • Manage relationships with communications and SCADA vendors and support third-party system integrations.
  4. Operational Technology Cyber Security

    • Working with the Low Carbon IT team, lead the implementation and continuous improvement of operational cyber security across all operational assets.
    • Develop, maintain, and enforce cyber security policies, standards, and procedures for SCADA, communications networks, and operational technology environments.
    • Monitor cyber security risks and vulnerabilities, coordinate patch management, and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
    • Manage secure remote access to operational systems using industry best practices.
    • Support cyber security incident response, investigations, and recovery activities.
    • Ensure operational systems remain compliant with relevant cyber security standards, legislation, and industry guidance (including IEC 62443, NIS Regulations/NIS2 where applicable, and company cyber security policies).
    • Work closely with internal IT teams and external service providers to ensure a secure and resilient operational technology environment.

Skills & Experience

  • Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Control Systems, Telecommunications, or a related technical discipline.
  • Proven experience managing renewable energy assets, industrial control systems, or operational technology environments.
  • Strong technical knowledge of SCADA systems, industrial communications, telemetry, networking, and remote monitoring platforms.
  • Experience managing operational communications infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and remote connectivity solutions.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of OT cyber security principles, secure remote access, vulnerability management, and cyber security standards such as IEC 62443, NIS/NIS2, or ISO 27001.
  • Strong understanding of high voltage electrical systems, grid compliance, and inverter technologies.
  • Proven ability to analyse technical data, solve complex technical problems, and lead operational activities.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Full UK driving licence (desirable).
