Technical Manager
Gloucestershire
£48,000 – £54,000
You can be brilliant at BRC, know HACCP inside out and still not be a great Technical Manager.
Because knowing how to manage food safety is one thing. Knowing how to get the best out of the people responsible for it is another.
This opportunity needs someone who can do both.
You'll be joining a long-established, independently owned food manufacturing business with a genuine story behind it. A business that has grown over generations, built strong relationships with its suppliers and customers, and retained the values of a family-run operation despite its scale.
You'll take ownership of the site's Technical and Laboratory functions, leading a team of around 15 people, including experienced managers, supervisors and technicians.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
Responsibilities:
- Technically, you'll be responsible for BRC, HACCP, food safety, quality systems, customer audits and continuous improvement.
- You'll need the experience to take ownership of those standards, challenge where necessary and work closely with Production to make sure they're maintained every day, not just when an audit is approaching.
People Management:
- The people side is equally important.
- They want someone who takes the time to know their team. Someone who coaches rather than simply instructs, develops the managers beneath them and creates an environment where people feel supported, challenged and accountable.

Requirements:
- You'll need a strong Technical or Quality leadership background within food manufacturing, practical ownership of BRCGS audits, and Level 3 HACCP and Food Safety qualifications.
- Experience in dairy would be particularly welcome, although chilled, high-care or similarly regulated food environments are equally relevant.
They're not looking for the person who knows the most about food safety but struggles to bring people with them.
They're looking for someone whose technical knowledge earns respect and whose leadership earns trust.
