Technical Manager

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Technical Manager to lead a small team responsible for delivering high-quality technical support, guidance, and industry expertise across heating, fuel combustion, and emerging electrical technologies.

The successful candidate will play a key leadership role in managing technical operations, supporting strategic initiatives, and ensuring the effective delivery of technical services to industry professionals, manufacturers, service providers, and internal stakeholders. This position requires a strong blend of technical knowledge, people management, and communication skills, alongside a passion for supporting industry standards and best practice.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Technical Manager will oversee the day-to-day delivery of technical services while ensuring that technical information, guidance, and industry developments are communicated effectively throughout the organisation and wider industry.

The role combines technical leadership, project management, team development, stakeholder engagement, and service delivery responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of technical professionals.
  • Set performance expectations and support team members in achieving service objectives.
  • Promote a collaborative, high-performing, and customer-focused culture.
  • Manage workloads and resources to ensure efficient service delivery.

Technical Services & Support

  • Oversee the delivery of technical support services and technical enquiry functions.
  • Manage the development and distribution of technical guidance, bulletins, manuals, and industry resources.
  • Ensure technical information remains accurate, current, and compliant with relevant legislation and standards.
  • Provide technical expertise and advice on heating, fuel combustion, and electrical systems.

Project & Consultancy Delivery

  • Support the CEO in the delivery of strategic technical projects and initiatives.
  • Manage consultancy activities and technical service offerings.
  • Monitor project progress and ensure delivery against agreed timescales and objectives.
  • Contribute technical expertise to organisational planning and development projects.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with manufacturers, contractors, service providers, and industry bodies.
  • Represent the organisation at industry meetings, webinars, exhibitions, and events.
  • Chair and participate in internal and external technical meetings and working groups.
  • Support cross-department collaboration by providing technical insight and guidance.

Operational Responsibilities

  • Manage technical information, reports, statistics, and consultation responses.
  • Oversee online technical resources and associated service functions.
  • Ensure technical processes are continuously reviewed and improved.
  • Contribute to the development of new services and initiatives that support industry needs.

Skills & Experience Required

Essential

  • Proven experience in a technical management, engineering, or supervisory role.
  • Strong background in heating systems, fuel combustion technologies, electrical engineering, or a related building services discipline.
  • Demonstrable experience leading, mentoring, and developing technical teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building abilities.
  • Experience interpreting and applying building regulations, industry standards, and technical guidance documentation.
  • Strong organisational, administrative, and IT skills.
  • Ability to present technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Desirable

  • Experience delivering consultancy or technical advisory services.
  • Knowledge of renewable heating technologies and low-carbon energy systems.
  • Experience producing technical publications, guidance documents, webinars, or industry presentations.
  • Membership of a recognised professional engineering institution.
