Technical Manager – A&D
Location: Clevedon, Somerset
Working Arrangement: Hybrid
Salary: Up to £90,000 per annum
Employment Type: Permanent
BMR Solutions are currently recruiting for a Technical Manager – A&D to join a leading engineering and technology business based in Clevedon.
This is a key technical leadership position responsible for driving engineering excellence across New Product Introduction (NPI) programmes. You will lead multidisciplinary engineering teams and ensure innovative concepts are developed into manufacturable, reliable and compliant products that meet customer and business requirements.
Reporting to the Product Engineering Manager, you will act as a technical authority across assigned projects, providing direction across mechanical, electrical, software, test and development engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the technical authority for assigned projects, ensuring a clear understanding of product functionality and design intent.
- Lead and coordinate engineering activities across mechanical, electrical, software, test and development disciplines.
- Provide technical direction to ensure system designs are standardised, configurable and optimised for performance, reliability and cost of ownership.
- Work closely with Programme Management and Technology teams to align technical strategy and resolve complex engineering challenges.
- Ensure engineering processes, documentation standards and quality procedures are followed throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review and approve system designs, ensuring functional requirements are met and designs are appropriately verified, validated and documented.
- Guide technical teams through the full development lifecycle, from concept through implementation and customer adoption.
- Make timely technical decisions and resolve engineering issues with a strong focus on customer and business requirements.
- Identify and manage engineering resource requirements, including headcount, equipment and software/hardware requirements.
- Collaborate with international stakeholders and Product Companies, including occasional international travel.
- Mentor and develop engineering teams, promoting technical excellence and continuous improvement.

The Ideal Candidate
To succeed as a Technical Manager – A&D, you will ideally have:
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Science or a related discipline.
- Extensive experience in system development and systems integration projects.
- A proven track record of leading complex, multidisciplinary engineering projects.
- Experience working with international teams and customers, including overseas travel.
- Experience mentoring engineers and driving technical excellence within engineering programmes.
- Strong leadership, communication and decision-making skills within cross-functional environments.
- Advanced problem-solving skills and a customer-focused approach.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Experience guiding engineering teams through development, testing, verification, validation and implementation.

Location
This role is based at the company's Clevedon, Somerset office and offers a hybrid working arrangement, providing flexibility to work remotely alongside time on-site.
