Technical Manager | Chemistry | East Yorkshire
£55,000–£70,000 | On-site | Permanent
I’m currently recruiting for an experienced Technical Manager to join a growing manufacturing business based in East Yorkshire, with occasional UK and EU travel, including travel to two other facilities in East Yorkshire.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced chemist and technical leader who enjoys being both hands-on in the laboratory and strategic at management level.
The Role
Reporting into the Managing Director, you’ll lead an experienced technical team (5) and take responsibility for:
- Technical & regulatory leadership across the product portfolio
- New Product Development and customer-led formulation projects
- Existing product management and reformulation
- Quality Control
- Regulatory compliance, including CLP, REACH, Cosmetics and Detergents Regulations
- Technical roadmap and standards
- Raw material and master data management
- Production and customer technical support
- Leading NPI and project management processes
- Developing and managing the technical team

You’ll work closely with Sales, Customers, Production, Procurement, and Operations, providing technical expertise while ensuring projects remain commercially realistic and deliverable.
The role will involve a genuine mix of hands-on chemistry, team leadership, customer interaction, and strategic technical management.
About You
We’re looking for an experienced chemist and people leader with:
- MChem, PhD in Chemistry, or equivalent industry experience
- Proven leadership experience in a Technical Manager, Head of Technical, or similar role
- Strong formulation experience within household and/or industrial chemistry
- Good understanding of surfactant, emulsion, and lubricant chemistries
- Experience translating customer requirements into practical technical solutions
- The confidence to work directly with customers and commercial teams
- Strong project management and decision-making skills
- Ideally, experience managing regulatory compliance across CLP, REACH, Cosmetics, and/or Detergents regulations
