Job Overview
We are an AA Grade BRCGS-accredited site and are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Technical Manager who will be responsible for ensuring that the site and its food products are safe, legal, high quality, hygienic, and compliant with all regulatory, customer, and company standards including throughout the food supply chain. The role bridges food science, quality assurance, compliance, and operations, acting as the technical authority within our food manufacturing site.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Technical
- Manage the company quality systems, ensuring that all documentation, risk assessments, standard operation procedures etc. are reviewed, relevant and compliant, as necessary.
- Ensure that the supply chain is properly maintained and managed, ensuring compliance with company quality systems.
- Understand the key elements of specification, certificate of conformance and other areas so that safety, quality, and legislation are fully complied with through the entire production chain.
- Operate the company internal and supplier audit program ensuring that all non-conformance is reported in a timely manner and that corrective action is carried out as appropriate.
- Ensure that all testing and verification procedures are operated in a correct and timely manner.
- Deal with customer issues including audits, complaints, and technical concession reporting.
- Ensure that the cold chain operates in accordance with the company quality systems.
- Operate a budget such that all technical and QA activities are correctly resourced and operate efficiently.
- Ensure that HACCP is correctly managed such that safety and legality are maintained.
- Organise and chair key technical review meetings including HACCP team meetings.
- Drive site food safety culture in alignment with business key values.
- Manage site microbiological performance through effective root cause analysis and reporting.
- Ensure that all key performance indicators are monitored, reported, and actioned if necessary.
- Ensure quality attributes are maintained accordingly, and prompt actions are taken when necessary to address quality issues.
- Lead preparation for and delivery of audits (BRCGS, regulatory) and act as the site lead for all external and customer audits.

Training
- Develop, implement, and maintain effective training programs to build the food safety culture.
- Collaborate with key business leaders and partners utilising key performance indicator data to identify and priorities manufacturing training opportunities.
- Build capability through training on food safety, quality standards, and best practices.
- Develop and maintain documentation, record keeping of training sessions.

General
- Deal with emergency situations as appropriate and communicate appropriately.
- Emulate high standards of conduct, safety, and food hygiene standards.
- Lead, coach, and develop the teams’ standards (production, growing, hygiene, and technical team), to ensure quality is embedded in the factory operations.
- Drive root cause analysis and implement preventative actions.
- Be an active member of the site H&S committee.
- Comply with all appropriate HR policies and manage the compliance of your team.
Key Competencies
- Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related discipline.
- Strong knowledge of food safety systems and legislation, HACCP, Food Safety & Hygiene etc.
- Excellent risk assessment and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail with a commercial mindset.
- Confident communicator with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Leadership and people management capability.
Job Details
- Position: Full time – Permanent
- Schedule: Mon-Fri 8am to 5pm
- Location: On site: Dunstable, Bedfordshire
- Salary: up to £60,000
