Technical Manager
Food Manufacturing
North Yorkshire
£65,000 - £80,000
Technical can’t be the department everyone calls after something has gone wrong.
At its best, it influences what happens before it does.
That’s the kind of Technical Manager this site is looking for.
You’ll take the technical lead within a large food manufacturing operation, sitting as part of the senior leadership team and leading an established structure beneath you, including Factory Technical, Technical Services, and Compliance.
Of course, the fundamentals matter. You’ll own HACCP and the Quality Management System, lead BRCGS and customer audit performance, and make sure the site is genuinely audit-ready every day.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Every day your agent scans the market matching roles against what actually matters to you, not just keywords on a CV.
Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
But this role goes further than compliance.
You’ll work closely with Operations, Engineering, Hygiene, and QA to influence how the factory operates, improve Food Safety culture, and make Technical part of the conversation when decisions are being made, not simply the function that signs them off afterwards.
There’s a significant customer-facing element too. You’ll build relationships directly with retailers, lead visits and audits, and need the confidence to represent the site when expectations are high.
And then there’s your own team.
You’ll be responsible for developing the managers beneath you, creating succession plans, and making sure the Technical function continues to build capability rather than relying on a handful of individuals.

You’ll need substantial Technical leadership experience within food manufacturing, alongside strong BRCGS knowledge and, importantly, experience working with M&S Codes of Practice. Level 4 HACCP and Food Safety qualifications are also required.
Ultimately, they’re looking for someone who can see beyond today's audit, complaint, or KPI.
Someone who can lead the Technical function, influence the wider site, and keep raising the bar rather than simply protecting it.
