Technical Manager – M&E Contractor
Our client, a growing mechanical and electrical contractor, is looking for an experienced Technical Manager. This role suits someone with a technical and design engineering background in M&E and proven pre-construction and tender experience.
You will be the technical lead for the business, supporting projects from bid stage through to handover and making sure they are designed, coordinated and delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality. You will work closely with the Head of Operations, report to the Company Director, and build strong relationships with clients, main contractors, consultants, designers and subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical side of tenders: review drawings and specifications, identify risks, and develop value engineering options to win work.
- Develop and coordinate M&E design from commencement to handover, leading liaison with consultants and design teams.
- Identify design clashes and installation issues, and provide practical solutions.
- Review technical submissions, equipment selections and manufacturers' information.
- Support project and site teams with programme, costs, resources and procurement, and oversee subcontractors and suppliers.
- Work with the commercial team to monitor costs, manage variations and identify savings.
- Support Quality Assurance and Health and Safety systems, and review ITPs, testing and commissioning records.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
