Technical Manager

This technical role within our Workplace Pensions team plays a key part in supporting the business across both ongoing proposition development and pension scheme management. The role also provides technical expertise to client-facing teams and contributes to the firm’s response to regulatory change and consultation activity.

This position is well-suited to a customer-focused, credible individual who is progressing their career within the pensions industry, particularly within Defined Contribution (DC) workplace pensions.

The Workplace Pensions team at M&G is dynamic and fast-paced, supporting multiple products and a diverse client base. This role offers excellent opportunities for development and career growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert direction, insight, and guidance to internal stakeholders to ensure business integrity and compliance with legislation, regulation, and industry best practice
  • Analyse regulatory and legislative changes, identify gaps in products or services, and drive actions to ensure compliance
  • Maintain and develop pension scheme policy documentation to reflect current practices and regulatory requirements
  • Attend regulatory forums and advise on the impact of changes on Workplace and Corporate Pensions products
  • Provide technical support on product, regulatory, legislative, tax, and trust-related matters to internal stakeholders (e.g. Operations, Distribution)
  • Support the Client Management team with retention strategies, including providing detailed technical input where required
  • Ensure all pensions technical documentation is accurate, compliant, and fit for purpose
  • Engage with industry bodies (e.g. ABI, SPC), government, and regulators to help influence outcomes aligned with M&G’s position
  • Provide training and ongoing support to team and enhance colleagues technical understanding of workplace pensions, ensuring knowledge is effectively applied in their roles

Key Knowledge And Skills

  • Proven experience within the life and pensions industry, particularly with trust-based and contract-based pension schemes
  • Strong ability to interpret scheme rules, legislation, and regulation, and apply this knowledge to business analysis and decision-making
  • Demonstrated experience producing technical and product documentation, tools, and support materials
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels, including third-party providers
  • Sound understanding of life and pensions products, industry landscape, competitors, and regulatory environment
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical information clearly to non-technical audiences
