The Recipe (About the Role)
The Technical Manager – Food Safety & Quality is responsible for driving food safety risk reduction, quality improvement, and high levels of audit and hygiene compliance across a cluster of manufacturing plants. The role ensures the consistent implementation of the Food Safety, Quality & Hygiene Strategy, working closely with Factory Quality Managers and site management teams.
Operating with direct reports, the role manages through influence — setting standards, embedding a proactive food safety culture, and ensuring best practice is shared and adopted consistently. This role safeguards brand reputation, helps operational excellence, and ensures the business is well positioned for future regulatory, customer, and manufacturing requirements.
- Manage and develop the team of Quality Managers.
- Drive quality improvement, food safety risk reduction, and compliance across the cluster.
- Own delivery of the Quality, Hygiene & Food Safety Strategy.
- Ensure quality and food safety standards are understood and embedded across sites.
- Promote a proactive food safety culture through performance monitoring and best practice sharing.
- Own food safety and compliance activities, ensuring effective corrective and preventative actions.
- Own the cluster Quality Capital Plan, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget as well as the cluster hygiene programme with site teams and external partners.
- Manage escalated quality incidents and complaints through to resolution.
- Own the Getting to Green / WSFS audit programme and improvement plans.
- Look at quality, hygiene and food safety performance to identify priorities and drive improvement.
- Manage concessions, ensuring compliance with legal and business requirements.
- Represent Quality at cluster MOS meetings, providing expert guidance.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to the role.

The Ingredients (What we need from you)
Key Know How:
- Significant experience in FMCG food manufacturing technical or quality management.
- Strong knowledge of food safety systems (HACCP / VACCP / TACCP), hygiene, and quality management.
- Proven experience in technical management or influencing roles.
- Strong background in BRCGS or equivalent GFSI audit standards.
- Demonstrated ability to drive standards, question constructively, and lead through influence.
- Experience in incident management, root cause analysis, concessions, and compliance governance.
- Experience with digital quality systems, automated hygiene monitoring, or emerging food safety technologies.
- Knowledge of advanced environmental monitoring, microbiological controls, or allergen management.
- Capability in working with large data sets, predictive modelling, or trend analytics.
- Experience owning factory transformation, automation, or capability building projects.
