Technical Manager - Solar PV, Battery & EV
Location: Regional and field-based, with occasional travel to London
Salary: £50,000 + bonus
Package: Car allowance or company car, equity and benefits
We’re recruiting an experienced Technical Manager for a rapidly growing residential renewable energy business.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified electrician with strong solar PV and battery installation experience to step into a technical leadership role. You’ll act as the technical authority for installations across your region, working closely with subcontractors and an office-based project management team.
The role combines site visits, remote technical support, quality assurance, and subcontractor management. It is not a full-time, on-the-tools position.
What you’ll be doing:
- Taking ownership of installation quality across your region
- Conducting remote technical reviews and on-site installation audits
- Advising operations teams on solar PV, battery storage, and EV charger best practice
- Assessing and onboarding new subcontractor installation teams
- Supporting installers and project managers with technical issues on live projects
- Helping resolve installation problems quickly and professionally
- Ensuring work complies with MCS standards, Part P, building regulations, and wider electrical requirements
- Monitoring subcontractor performance and maintaining consistently high standards
- Travelling to installation sites when required
- Supporting the development of more efficient installation and compliance processes as the business grows

Essential experience and qualifications:
- Qualified electrician with at least three years’ hands-on experience installing solar PV, battery storage, or EV charging systems
- NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation
- 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations qualification
- ECS Gold Card
- Strong working knowledge of MCS requirements and installation best practice
- Full UK driving licence
- Confident communication skills and the ability to work effectively with subcontractors, customers, and office-based teams

Desirable:
- Inspection and testing qualification, such as City & Guilds 2391 or 2394/5
- Solar PV or EESS BPEC certification
- Experience managing, assessing, or mentoring installers and subcontractor teams
