The role

We are seeking applications for a Technical Officer within the Aquaculture division of Moredun Scientific (a commercial subsidiary of the Moredun Foundation, a registered charity). You will join a team of people involved in the conduct of Aquaculture studies testing vaccines, therapeutics and other fish health products for use in farmed fish.

The post will be based at Moredun Scientific, Pentlands Science Park, near Edinburgh. There will be a requirement for regular travel to an aquaculture research facility in East Lothian and periodic travel to a facility in Aberdeen.

You will act in the role of Technical Officer for studies appropriate to your experience level and be involved in laboratory work and live-phase support, you will be expected to develop areas of expertise and take responsibility for specific work areas.

Additionally, you will assist the local team with facility operations, including fish husbandry.

Experience required

To be considered for this role, it is essential that you have;

  • A biological degree or recognised Higher National Certificate/Diploma in Biological Sciences or a related discipline.
  • Good interpersonal and communications skills and effective organizational abilities.

In addition, ideally you will have:

  • A good understanding of research quality management systems (eg VICH-GCP, GLP)
  • Experience of working with fish or other aquatic animals in a research environment.
  • A Home Office licence training qualification
  • Experience of working in a laboratory environment
  • A clean driving licence
