Technical Officer

Food Manufacturing

Sunderland

Salary: £30,000 - £35,000

Some Technical roles give you one small piece of the puzzle. This one gives you exposure to pretty much all of it.

Specifications. Auditing. Raw materials. Complaints. Food safety. Customers. Testing. Supplier approval.

If you're building a career in food Technical and want a position that gives you broad exposure rather than pigeonholing you into one area, this is exactly that kind of opportunity.

You'll join the Technical team of a food manufacturing site in Seaham, supporting the Technical Manager with the systems that keep products safe, legal and consistently manufactured to the right standards.

  • Day to day, you'll maintain raw material and finished product specifications
  • Support supplier approvals and risk assessments
  • Conduct internal GMP audits
  • Help maintain the site's Quality Management and Food Safety systems

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You'll also:

  • Investigate customer complaints and put together responses
  • Support environmental and microbiological testing
  • Help coordinate corrective actions
  • Respond to technical questions from customers and other parts of the business

There is a good people element too. You'll support technical and food safety training across the site, contribute to taste panels and organoleptic assessments and work closely with Production, Engineering, Hygiene, NPD, Procurement and Warehouse teams.

They aren't necessarily looking for someone who has already done everything.

If you've gained a couple of years' experience within food manufacturing QA or Technical and you're ready to broaden your exposure, there could be a good fit here. You'll ideally understand HACCP, food safety and quality management systems and have some experience of internal auditing and specifications. Exposure to supplier auditing would be useful, but it isn't the central requirement for this role.
