Based: Office Based, Flitwick Bedfordshire
Date: May 2026
Hours: 8.00 – 17.00
Salary: Dependent on Experience

To provide front-line technical and commercial support to customers and internal engineers requiring air compressor parts. The Parts Technical Assistant accurately identifies spare parts for a wide range of air compressors, dryers, filters, and compressed air system components, handles parts enquiries by telephone and email, prepares quotations, and processes trade and web shop orders. The role ensures the correct components are supplied promptly to support servicing, repairs, and customer orders, contributing to exceptional service delivery and minimized equipment downtime.

Major Responsibilities

  • Accurately identifying and sourcing spare parts for a wide range of air compressor and compressed air equipment.
  • Acting as a first point of contact for parts telephone and email enquiries from customers and internal engineers.
  • Interpreting technical drawings, exploded diagrams, parts books, and digital catalogues to identify correct part numbers.
  • Preparing and issuing parts quotations.
  • Liaising with suppliers to obtain part numbers, availability, pricing, and lead times.
  • Maintaining accurate parts records on Protean and supporting the maintenance of the company web shop.
  • Conforming to Air Equipment ISO9001 and ISO14001 procedures and standards.

Key Duties

Technical Parts Identification

  • Accurately identify OEM and aftermarket parts for rotary screw, piston, and scroll compressors, dryers, filters, control systems, and compressed air pipework.
  • Interpret technical documentation, service manuals, exploded diagrams, and customer-supplied photographs to verify parts requirements.
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the company's parts range, including familiarity with brands such as ABAC, Atlas Copco, CompAir, Boge, and Ingersoll Rand.
  • Provide technical guidance to customers regarding parts compatibility and upgrades, escalating more complex queries to a senior colleague as appropriate.
  • Assist with building internal knowledge resources, including photographs and cross-references.

Customer Enquiries and Quotations

  • Answer telephone and email enquiries from customers, prospects, and internal engineers in a professional and timely manner.
  • Prepare and issue accurate parts quotations by telephone and email.
  • Follow up outstanding quotations proactively to convert to orders.
  • Update quotation trackers and keep records current.

Web Shop

  • Assist with maintaining the web shop, keeping product listings, pricing, and availability accurate and up to date.
  • Respond to web shop customer queries and order-related communications in a timely and professional manner.

Supplier and Stores Support

  • Liaise with suppliers to obtain part numbers, availability, pricing, and lead times.
  • Support the stores team with ordering, stock management, and warranty claims as required.
  • Maintain and update parts identification records and databases.
  • Assist with the annual stock take through to valuation.

General

  • Update and maintain parts records on Protean and associated Excel trackers.
  • Provide cover for colleagues during periods of absence.
  • Attend and actively participate in training and technical updates on new equipment and parts lines, both on-site and off-site as required.
  • Accurately complete all company documentation and paperwork on time.
  • Undertake any other relevant duties as required.

Essential

  • Previous experience in a customer-facing parts, technical sales, or technical support role, ideally within engineering, compressed air, or a related technical industry.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to read technical drawings and interpret manufacturer documentation.
  • Good communicator — confident and professional by telephone and email, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to customers.
  • Organized and methodical, with excellent attention to detail when processing orders and quotations.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and comfortable using hard copy parts books and digital catalogues.
  • Customer-first mindset, with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Desirable

  • Prior experience in a service department or parts desk in the compressed air or other technical/engineering-related industry.
  • A working understanding of air compressor equipment, compressed air systems, dryers, and filters.
  • Familiarity with brands such as ABAC, Atlas Copco, CompAir, and Ingersoll Rand.
  • Knowledge of fluid power, pneumatics, or filtration systems.
  • Experience with Protean or a similar order management system.
