Purpose of the Job

As a Technical Product Manager for our Digital Experience Backend team, you will own the backend product capabilities that power our customer-facing App and Web experiences. You will provide a single point of product ownership for backend demand across Digital Experience: shaping asks into clear problems and outcomes, setting priorities, maintaining the roadmap and backlog and partnering with Engineering to deliver secure, scalable and reusable services. You will connect the needs of App and Web product teams with the wider platform strategy, balancing new capabilities, migrations, operational resilience and technical health to maximise customer and business value.

Key Responsibilities

Backend Product Strategy and Ownership

  • Own the vision, strategy and outcome-led roadmap for the Digital Experience backend capabilities that support App and Web.
  • Act as the central product owner for backend development asks from App and Web teams, creating one transparent and prioritised view of demand.
  • Define clear ownership and boundaries across digital backend services, shared platforms and dependent teams, reducing duplication and bespoke solutions.
  • Align the roadmap with digital experience, architecture, platform and business strategies, including migrations from legacy services.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Demand Management and Prioritisation

  • Establish and run a consistent intake and triage process for backend asks, ensuring requests are understood, evidenced and technically assessed before entering the backlog.
  • Translate App and Web needs into reusable backend capabilities rather than channel-specific point solutions wherever possible.
  • Prioritise work using customer value, commercial value, risk, regulatory needs, technical dependencies, effort and strategic alignment.
  • Manage dependencies, sequencing and trade-offs across multiple digital products and communicate decisions clearly to stakeholders.

Discovery, Definition and Delivery

  • Lead discovery with Product, Engineering, Architecture, Design, Data, Security and operational teams to define the problem, target outcome and viable solution approach.
  • Own epics, requirements, acceptance criteria and product decisions for APIs, integrations, identity and account services, search, transactions and other shared digital capabilities.
  • Partner closely with Engineering throughout delivery, providing timely decisions, removing ambiguity and keeping scope focused on the intended outcome.
  • Plan releases and migrations with consuming App and Web teams, including backward compatibility, rollout, adoption, operational readiness and decommissioning of legacy capabilities.

Performance, Reliability and Stakeholder Leadership

  • Define and track measures for adoption, service performance, reliability, delivery effectiveness and the customer outcomes enabled through App and Web.
  • Use data, incidents, service insight and stakeholder feedback to identify improvements and inform roadmap decisions.
  • Balance feature delivery with security, resilience, observability, scalability, technical debt and ongoing platform health.
  • Provide clear roadmap, progress, risk and dependency updates, influencing senior stakeholders and resolving competing priorities across teams.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

Essential Experience and Technical Understanding

  • Strong product management experience in a technical, platform, API, integration or backend-focused product area.
  • Proven ownership of a roadmap and backlog serving multiple customer-facing products, channels or consuming teams.
  • Ability to translate customer and business needs into clear technical product outcomes, requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Working knowledge of APIs, service-based architecture, system integrations, data flows, identity and access, and cloud-based digital platforms.
  • Experience partnering closely with engineers and architects, with the confidence to challenge assumptions and make informed trade-offs without acting as the solution architect.
  • Experience managing cross-team dependencies, legacy migrations, backward compatibility and phased releases.
  • Strong prioritisation and decision-making skills, supported by data, value, risk and technical insight.
