Your role
We are seeking an experienced Technical Project Engineer to lead the bidding and tendering process for commercial and industrial compressed air pipework installations business. You will take full ownership of projects from initial inquiry to final submission, ensuring accurate, competitive, and profitable bids. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, analytical skills, and hands-on site evaluation.
Your day-to-day
Bid Management
- Manage the end-to-end pricing process for compressed air installation tenders, including comprising a full bill of materials and evaluation of human resource requirements for the install team
- Review inquiry documents to establish precise client requirements, including project management and client documentation requirements
- Prepare comprehensive financial tenders and technical proposal documents, detailing the full scope of work.
- Present finalized cost estimates and project profit forecast to the installation business line manager for sign-off
Material & Supporting Services Evaluation
- Interpret mechanical drawings, schematic diagrams, and structural blueprints.
- Produce highly accurate Bill of Materials (BOM) and labour estimates.
- Source competitive quotes from specialist material suppliers and subcontractors, including support services such as access equipment etc
- Account for ancillary equipment like compressors, dryers, receivers, and filtration where applicable

Site Surveys & Engineering
- Conduct detailed on-site surveys to assess installation feasibility.
- Identify potential site constraints, access issues, and health and safety risks.
- Map out optimal pipework routing & materials (e.g., aluminium, galvanized steel, stainless steel, copper etc).
- Validate that drawings match actual physical site conditions.
Commercial & Client Relations
- Build strong relationships with main contractors, end clients, and suppliers.
- Negotiate pricing terms to maximize profit margins while remaining competitive.
- Value engineering proposals to offer clients cost-saving alternatives.
- Provide clear handovers to the PPS project delivery team upon winning bids

Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience estimating mechanical piping systems
- Proven track record in compressed air, fluid power, or industrial gas installations.
Technical Skills
- Skilled and adept in reading and interpreting construction and mechanical drawings.
- Strong working knowledge of pipework materials, pressure drops, and flow rates.
- Proficiency with estimating software and advanced Microsoft Excel.

Capabilities
- Willingness to travel in the UK for site surveys and client meetings.
- Strong mathematical acumen and sharp attention to detail.
- Excellent written English for drafting professional tender proposals.
Qualifications
- HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or Quantity Surveying (preferred but not essential if backed by relevant experience)
- Valid UK driving license

Job location
This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, allowing you to split your time between working at customer sites and being on-site at our Brigehouse/Sheffield branches.
